Creative Uses for Kids Old Costumes

It seems like it’s a major life question every November 1st: Halloween is over, so what do you do with your costume? You spent so much time putting together your kid’s Halloween costume, that now you’re at a loss of what to do with it since that the holiday is over! There are plenty of things to do with these spooky outfits, though, rather than just storing them in your closet until next year. We love a chance to do some crafting and brainstorming, so we came up with a handful of ideas of ways to recycle, reuse, and upcycle your old Halloween costumes.

Create a Dress Up Trunk

Dress Up Trunk

[Source: Left | Right]

Kids love to dress up year-round, not just on Halloween. This is scientifically proven research, provided by anyone who has ever been a kid in their life. A great thing to do with your old Halloween costumes is to put together one of the coolest dress up trunks in town. Save all your old costumes – even pick some up during the super sales after the holiday! – and make a one-stop shop in your kid’s playroom for creative play.

Turn Them Into Next Year's Costumes

Old Halloween Costumes for Kids

Child Angel Costume – Shop      Leopard Print Dress – Shop      Little Bo Peep Costume – Shop

Mad Scientist Lab Coat – Shop      Magician Halloween Costume – Shop

Toddler Prisoner Costume – Shop      Pink Fairy Wings Set – Shop      Zombie Makeup - Shop

Hand-me-downs are going to happen if you have multiple kids in your family. The older sibling can wear the costume one year and then the next year or so, the littler one can re-use it. However, it doesn’t have to be exactly the same as before! Add or subtract some accessories to change up the look for a brand new costume. Here are a few ideas:

  • Angel to Bride: Take out the wings and halo, and replace them with a veil. Add a beautiful bouquet and a big diamond ring to complete the bridal look.
  • Leopard to Pop Star: Remove the kitty ears and tail, and instead accessorize this leopard print dress with a leather jacket, some stylish shoes, huge sunglasses, and a venti Starbucks. Train your little one to say “no pictures please” to complete this paparazzi-followed pop star.
  • Little Bo Peep to Creepy Doll: A fairy-tale dress like this would be perfect to transform into a creepy, porcelain doll. Ditch the staff, and get your makeup kit out. Look for makeup tutorials online on how to do a creepy doll effect, and, if you don’t mind, dirty the dress up with some dirt or dust to make it look like it’s been sitting in an attic for years.
  • Doctor to Mad Scientist: A person in a lab coat can be comforting or scary, depending on how the rest of him looks. If you want to dress your kid up as a scary mad scientist, tease his hair out, use some makeup to tint his face green, and replace his stethoscope and clipboard with beakers and bottles of strange looking concoctions.
  • Magician to Vampire: This one is nice and easy! Take away the magician’s hat (the bunny, too!), slick back his hair, add in some fangs and white face paint, and abracadabra! A vampire is born!
  • Prisoner to Mime: Another simple change. Flip the shirt inside out so it’s still striped, but hides the prisoner number on front. We suggest wearing plain black pants, a pair of suspenders if you have them, and then painting on the classic mime white makeup.

Other really quick Halloween costume ideas? Add wings to just about any outfit to make an adorable, personalized fairy. Otherwise, any costume can be zombie-fied with some stage makeup and fake blood.

Create Next Year's Halloween Decorations

A more advanced, creative-type idea on how to recycle old kid’s Halloween costumes is to transform them into new Halloween décor items. Here are a couple different examples.

Witch Décor Ideas

Witch Halloween Decorations

[Source: Left | Top Right | Bottom Right]

We don’t know what it is, but the classic wicked witch motif lends itself to some pretty awesome decorations. The image on the left, above, shows a simple doorway. Hang old witch hats from the ceiling, and dress a scarecrow or mannequin in an old kid’s wicked witch costume. (This one would work!) On the top right, a talented decorator used an old witch’s shoe as a table centerpiece. Lastly, the bottom right shows another shoe idea. So creative!

Spooky Halloween Décor Ideas

Recycled Halloween Decor Ideas

Okay, so you don’t HAVE to do all witch themed decor. Here a few more ideas. Dress up scarecrows in your kid’s old costumes to create a lively party in your front yard. Another idea would be to put old masks on your front door as spooky door-knockers or wall hangings.

Get Crafty

Halloween Craft Ideas

[Source: Left | Top Left | Top Right | Middle Left | Middle Right | Bottom Right]

You can also repurpose and upcycle old Halloween costumes for other types of decorations, Halloween or otherwise. A wreath, as shown on the left, can be used for October, or for themed birthday parties or other get-togethers. The four images in the top right, seen above, show different ways to recycle just the fabric from the costumes for a few different type of crafts – cut apart the costume and you can make bunting, a memory board, or a few different types of picture frames and wall art. Lastly, we had to include this Freddy toilet seat cover. Use this as inspiration to make your own, uh, weird bathroom décor.

Trade Your Old Halloween Costumes In!

Maybe you aren’t feeling so creative, or maybe you have no one to hand your used Halloween costumes down to. That is okay! Luckily, HalloweenCostumes.com has a trade-in program where you can send us your old costume back and get a gift card to go towards next year’s new look. Watch the video above for more details, or visit the trade-in info page here.

We hope that this gave you a few ideas on what to do with your old Halloween costumes. Just because your kid grew out of it doesn’t mean it has to be banished to the back of the closet forever and ever. What type of things to do you do with your kid’s used Halloween costumes? Let us know in the comments! And if you’re looking for some new items, we won’t judge. All of our Halloween costumes for kids are here.

Costumes-for-your-Minion-Costume.jpg

YES! Only two weeks left until our favorite yellow henchmen return to the big screen in the new Minions movie! We first fell in love with these tiny troublemakers after the release of the first Despicable Me movie in 2010, and over the past five years we have laughed tirelessly, watching their silly monkey Minion business play out on film.

One little known nuance of Minions was that if they appeared in daylight, they were supposed to be in costume. Since that fact was never officially announced, it hasn't been followed to the letter - but we still see many Minions appear in costumes throughout the films. In fact, this has become one of the easiest ways to distinguish some of the characters! So, if you have been able to reuse your Minion costume for the last five Halloweens, but want something a little different this year, we came up with 10 costume ideas for your Minion costume. Do you want to be Kevin the golfer, Carl the fire alarm, or Stuart dressed as Lucy? Take a look and see what costumes and accessories can help you transform your same old Minion costume into something new this year!

1. Firefighter Minion Costume

Bee-do, bee-do, bee-do. You have to admit that is fun to say. (Especially through a megaphone!) Pair your Minion costume with a firefighter costume and you will be too hot to handle. Add a little arts and crafts element to this costume by gluing the three fezzes to a headband or a hat to create the flashing, red light effect.

2. French Maid Minion Costume

To make this extra Minion-y, grab a pair of goggles or yellow leggings to wear with the dress.

Cat costumes are a Halloween staple for a reason. Basically everyone loves cats, and it's so easy to dress as one. Just wear all black and accessorize with ears and a tail. For whiskers, you can either get a simple mask or just draw them on with eyeliner. It doesn't get much easier than that! You can also add on some kitty paw gloves to make your costume more authentic. You might draw some strange looks if you start crawling around on all fours, though.

Suicide Squad Throwbacks

Is it just us or is the buzz surrounding Suicide Squad something extra-special? Sure, there have been a few examples of other movies creating this kind of excitement so far out from their release. But 2016’s highly anticipated anti-hero film seems like it's been hard to miss if you’ve even spent only a few minutes trolling the geekosphere in recent months. The attention around David Ayer's upcoming film, which is set in the DC Comics universe, started with the “leaked” images and a meme stampede in the wake of images of Jared Leto’s tattoo-laden Joker. That was quickly followed by an all-around collective gasp at the unveiling of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Then the rest of the star-studded cast, including the likes of Will Smith, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Cara Delevingne, just kept feeding the buzz and here we are today. Here to feed the beast some more!

Use the slider below to compare the original, very first appearances of each character from the Suicide Squad to their likeness from the upcoming movie. We've got 'em all, not just Harley and the Joker, but all nine of the supervillians. The concept is simple, but powerful – so enjoy this walk down memory lane as we look into the future!

Embed the slider on your site.

<div style="width: 100%; text-align: center;" id="suicidesquadembed"><iframe scrolling="no" name="suicidesquad" style="border: 0px #ffffff none; max-width: 1024px; height: 940px; margin: 0 auto; overflow: hidden;" onload="javascript:this.style.height=this.offsetWidth*0.922 + 'px';" src="https://secure.halloweencostumes.com/blog/suicide-squad/" frameborder="0" height="940" width="100%"></iframe></div>

Does this kick your excitement level for the film up a notch? Can you tell that we're MORE THAN READY for this film?! Let us know what you think about this comparison - which version of the characters do you like better? Are they upgrades or is the original always best? Harley Quinn: Evolution of Madness [Infographic]

HarleyQuinnfographic.jpg

Dr. Harleen Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn from the DC/Batman Universe, is the posterchild of a classic love story gone way wrong. And with a past that’s tangled and disturbing enough to give The Silence of the Lambs a run for its money, there’s no wonder why countless cosplayers and comic readers favor this unlikely antihero for their Comic-Con or Halloween costume. An ex-Gotham City University gymnast and ex-Arkham Asylum psychiatric intern turned murderous supervillainess, Harley Quinn hit the scene in the early ‘90s as an extra (an afterthought, really) on Batman: The Animated Series before evolving into a cautionary tale of what a “wicked attraction” can cost a girl in Gotham.

Sometimes funny, other times rather sad, Harley Quinn’s descent into madness is one riddled with makeovers, costume changes, and all around reimaginings that even the most devout comic enthusiasts may have missed along the way. So whether you are following the media frenzy surrounding 2016’s Suicide Squad or can’t stop playing the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Knight, Harley Quinn’s sordid past is one trip into madness that fans can’t resist and neither can we! Track her beginning in 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series to countless appearances in solo comics, video games, and big titles like Suicide Squad, Gotham City Sirens, and the storylines from the New 52, as we follow the corpse riddled path of the Clown Prince of Crime’s first lady and puddin’ pop, Harley Quinn.

Minions Dressed As 6 Popular Movie Henchmen

Minions as Other Henchmen

This Friday, we can catch our favorite little henchmen in their new movie, Minions. We last saw Stuart, Kevin, and Bob in the ending credits of Despicable Me 2 as they were auditioning for their roles in the upcoming film. Minions is actually a prequel to the successful Despicable Me films and will rewind the clock all the way to the B.G. (before Gru) years. The movie will follow Stuart, Kevin, and Bob, as they attend Villain-Con in search of a new evil overlord to work for.

Before the Minions found Gru they worked for many super-villains, but according to plot rumors surrounding the new movie, they destroyed all masters that preceded him. Perhaps the Minions weren’t built for a life of crime and have actually been picking the evil rulers off one by one because of their inherently good nature. They are just so cute, how could they ever be evil? Since they have worked for their fair share of criminals, we wondered what it would be like if they worked for the evil geniuses in some of our favorite films to date. Here are the Minions as henchmen from six famous films!

1. Card Soldiers from Alice in Wonderland

Minions as Cards from Alice in Wonderland

You must obey the Queen of Hearts. It’s possible that the Minions' fear of the mad queen would translate into loyalty, but nonetheless, her faithful servants are there to obey her orders. If they don’t, off with their heads! Seriously, that is one woman you don’t want to mess with! Maybe if the cards were as cute as Minions, she would finally learn to have a heart.

2. Hyenas from The Lion King

Minions as Hyenas from Lion King

Banzai, Ed, and Shenzi, are three hyenas that many Disney fans love to hate. On Scar’s orders, the hyenas triggered the stampede that killed Mufasa and nearly Simba. The hyenas then chased Simba out of The Pride Lands so Scar could take the throne as king. If Minions were the hyenas in The Lion King, the only way there would be a stampede is if they were chasing an ice cream truck. “GELATO!

3. Flying Monkeys from The Wizard of Oz

Minions as Flying Monkeys from The Wizard of Oz

Flying monkeys (sometimes referred to as winged monkeys) obey the orders of the Wicked Witch to kidnap Dorothy and her little dog, too. Although they do not speak, they are terrifying enough to haunt the dreams of children everywhere. It’s obviously either the blue face or the Joker-like grin, because when Minions dress like flying monkeys, they have a mischievous charm!

4. Penguins from Batman Returns

Minions as Penguins from Batman Returns

In the 1992 film Batman Returns, we were introduced to the most horrifying penguin our eyes had ever seen and he just so happened to be plotting to take over the world. His little henchmen, a penguin army strapped with rockets, were intended to be used to blow up Gotham City, but his plans were foiled yet again by The Dark Knight. Considering Minions have a hard time using guns filled with jelly, it’s probably best if the explosives are left at home.

5. Stormtroopers from Star Wars

Minions as Stormtroopers

Minions were originally intended to be similar to Stormtroopers, but in order to make Gru more likeable, they were made much smaller in size. Sure, if trusted with guns, Minions might have just as good aim (or lack thereof) as the Stormtroopers in Star Wars, but there is something about these Minion-troopers that make them look a little less intimidating.

6. Uruk-Hai from Lord of the Rings

Minions as Uruk Hai from Lord of the Rings

Although Minions are little, when dressed like the Uruk-hai they could potentially have great strength. Super-villains would have flocked to recruit them for their next biggest plot. Even if they don’t have super strength, these little guys are so cute that J.R.R. Tolkien himself might have been compelled to make them the next breed of Orcs. Middle-earth would never be the same again!

What do you think of these Minions dressed like other evil henchmen? Do you have a favorite? Share yours in the comments below. In the meantime, as we so (im)patiently wait for Halloween, check out our new Minion costume selection this year. Poopaye for now!

Ant-Man Evolution Header

There is a reason comic fans eagerly anticipate that first blurry shot of their favorite character’s costume after a cinematic adaptation is announced. True fans know that almost every comic book character in history has gone through numerous costume changes (except maybe the Hulk—tiny shorts and a bare green chest forever), and every fan wants to see their favorite character’s costume represented accurately on screen. Since comics are illustrated, turning hand-drawn ideas into tangible and realistic on-screen attire can be a challenge. Thankfully, though, it looks like the creative team behind the Ant-Man film has paged thoroughly through comic history and found the right mixture of both old and new for our favorite pin-sized superhero. As you "ant"icipate the film's release next Friday, enjoy reading up on Ant-Man's interesting evolution!

Pop Culture Halloween Costumes.jpg

Pop culture is like a rollercoaster ride. It has highs and lows, sometimes it makes you feel like puking, other times it makes you scream at the top of your lungs, and it always makes a mess of your hair. Halloween is a time of year where the entire year in pop culture comes to life through costumes. Whether it was a heated internet debate, a sports scandal, a movie premiere, or any other event in the news, pop culture happenings shine brightly on Halloween.

Last year it was the Jasmine tridevil triple breast costume and the year before that the Twerkin Teddy. (The world will never forget that, Miley!) We are officially halfway into 2015 and have seen our fair share of pop culture events so far this year. So, in case you have forgotten, we've collected some ideas for 2015 pop culture-inspired costumes for you!

1. Deflategate

Deflategate.jpg

Football Costume - Shop

Sports competition is fierce these days. Not quite as fierce as it was back in the days of Rome, but it's still intense. We don't think there is any sports equipment any being coated with poison these days, but that didn't stop the Patriots from trying to gain a slight edge by playing with slightly deflated footballs. Of course, we never miss out on a good costume opportunity and this one just screams timely satire costume. Sorry, Brady!

2. Left Shark

Left Shark.jpg

Left Shark Costume - Shop

Everyone has dreams growing up. One little shark dreamed of being a dancer, but never made it into dance school. Did he let that stop him? No! He danced his little tail all the way to the Super Bowl, and onto the stage with Katy Perry...slightly behind cue and all. Now, everyone knows him as the Left Shark, but his friends just call him Lefty. He's the Underdog story that everyone loves, so who better to dress up as for a costume party?

3. Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr Costume.jpg

It was the fight of the century! The battle of two behemoths of boxing! Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. may be lightweights, but that didn't stop this fight from being one of the most talked about events of 2015. Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. just screams costume mash-up and if you are going to a party with a friend, check out the Manny "Pac Man" Pacquaiao costume below.

4. Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao Costume.jpg

Inflatable Boxing Gloves - Shop       Pac Man Costume - Shop

Manny might not have a lot in common with his video game-based nickname. As far as we know, he doesn't fight ghosts and he probably doesn't wander around mazes collecting glowing pellets. We suspect his name came from his love of fruit. Anyway, this Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao costume is a great idea for Halloween 2015, as long as those inflatable gloves don't get in the way of holding your beverage.

5. Marty McFly

Marty McFly Costume.jpg

Marty McFly Jacket - Shop       Marty McFly Hat - Shop

Back to the Future Shoes - Shop       Back to the Future Hoverboard - Shop

2015 was a big year for Marty McFly in 1989. No, you didn't read that wrong. Marty cruised through time to the year 2015 to help out his kids and save the space-time continuum in Back to the Future II. Now, it finally IS that year and we finally can have the complete look and replicate his famous outfit. Sorry, the shoes are not self-lacing, the hoverboard does not hover, and the jacket is not self-drying, but you can blame science for that!

6. Star Wars

Star Wars Costumes.jpg

Jedi Robe - Shop       Princess Leia Costume - Shop       Han Solo Costume - Shop

Wookiees, X-Wings, soccer ball droids and a contractually obligated face-rug...Star Wars: The Force Awakens is bringing fans everything they wanted and more. Han, Leia, Luke, and the droids, are back too, so it's no surprise that these costumes are hot this year. (We're hoping to see a Millennium Falcon door malfunction Han Solo Costume). These are classic Star Wars costume ideas, but the costumes from the new line haven't been released yet. They are on their way, though, so be sure to check our Star Wars Costumes page out in September!

7. Avengers

Avengers Costumes.jpg

Pop culture and the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem to go together like spaghetti and meatballs. Avengers: Age of Ultron goes with 2015 like spaghetti and meatballs with tomato basil sauce, garlic bread, and some nice Italian dressing salad. Seriously, Age of Ultron is the second biggest movie of 2015 so far (next to Jurassic World), so it's only fitting that the Avengers characters will be some of the hottest costume ideas this year.

8. Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton Costume.jpg

Hillary Clinton Mask - Shop

Hillary is back and this time she's not texting snarky responses to government officials and Meryl Streep. Now, she's doing stuff like making up logos for her 2016 presidential campaign. She'll always be the smartphone texting girl in our eyes, even if she becomes the front-runner for first female President of the United States. These reasons make her prime for costume potential and if you are looking for a couples Halloween costume, Bill can be your first lady! Errr...

9. Banana Bunker

Banana Bunker Costume.jpg

Admit it. You were one of the people trying to stump Groupon with a sarcastic slam on the banana protection apparatus. Just in case you weren't done laughing about the “unfortunately” shaped fruit protector or the countless inuendo-filled responses, then we have some banana costumes that you can use to start your Banana Bunker costume. Check out our DIY tutorial for a fun 2015 Halloween costume that gets our seal peel of approval!

10. Kim Jong-un

Kim Jong-un Costume.jpg

Kim Jong-un Mask - Shop       I'm With Stupid Shirt - Shop

Kim Jong-un had a big year in 2015. He finally got a new haircut. Also, he has a video game in the works where he fights the evils of the capitalist world with his best pal, Dennis Rodman. That duo might be the craziest combo since pickles and frosting. It DOES, however, make for one unforgettable costume for 2015. Oh, and in case your party has music, you can learn to dance just like Kim Jong-un here!

11. The Dress

thedress costume.jpg

Black and Blue Dress - Shop       White and Gold Dress - Shop

2015 asked the world some pretty big questions. Blue and black? Gold and white? It was the biggest divide in the country since Pepsi vs. Coke or maybe Edward vs. Jacob. Okay, maybe that's going a little far, but the optical illusion was water cooler talk around every office for at least a week after those images circulated the internet. It may have even caused a few break-ups, so make sure your relationships are rock solid before you take sides and choose this Halloween costume.

12. Barack Obama

Barack Obama Costume.jpg

Barack Obama Mask - Shop       Men's Suit Costume - Shop

Barack! Your term is coming to an end, but what happened to your hair? Running the U.S. does have a habit of turning a man's hair grey! As always, this guy is all over the news. But apparently John Wall thinks that Justin Bieber could beat President Obama at basketball. (Duo costume idea??) A costume based the big guy himself is a great pop culture choice this year, especially since next year's political costume focus is bound to surround 2016's presidential candidates.

13. Inside Out

Inside Out Joy Costume.jpgJoy Costume - Shop

Pixar is back in the game in a major way this year! Inside Out is their first film since the 2013 movie Monsters University, and it has everyone gushing. Sure, the story is based on the feelings of a child's feelings (sounds a bit complicated), but the message is heartwarming. Parents and kids are talking non-stop about the film, so it's only fitting that top Halloween Costume ideas of 2015 will include the cast of Inside Out. We just have a...feeling!

There you have it! A list of pop culture Halloween costume ideas for 2015. Which pop culture moments do you think have the most costume potential? Let us know in the comments below! In the meantime, feel free to peruse our selection of new costumes to get your own ideas for a 2015-inspired Halloween look.

What We Know About Minions from the Minions Movie

WhatWeKnowAboutMinions_Header.jpg

These days we see Minions everywhere...taking up entire toy aisles, printed on packages of fruit snacks, starring in internet memes, and, of course, in the movie Minions, which has now been in theaters for nearly two weeks ( if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out!).  Minions are cute, which is probably why they are everywhere, but how much do we really know about them? A few months back, we shared everything we knew about Minions and hoped that the newmovie would fill in the gaps. Thankfully, the movie did answer some of our most burning questions, but it left others hanging in the balance. Keep reading to find out what we learned about our favorite henchmen in the most recent movie.

If it wasn’t obvious already, ***SPOILER ALERT***, consider yourself warned!

What Minions Taught Us

    1. Where Minions Come From

    Minions Surfacing.jpg

    [source]

Based on the first two Despicable Me films, it wasn’t clear where Minions came from. The directors, Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, suggested that there were several origin ideas, but nothing was ever officially included in any of the movies. Coffin and Renaud tossed around the idea of egg yolks, a Minion gun, among others, but never decided until the new Minions film. As the newest movie begins, we see how Minions are created. Starting as a single-celled organism, they then replicate into little fish-like beings. They are nurtured in the sea until they eventually just float to the top and prepare to live a life on land with the sole purpose of serving evil overlords.

        2. Who the Minions Worked for Before Gru

        Minions T-Rex Master.JPG

        [source]

We first met the Minions when they were Gru’s henchmen in Despicable Me. Since the Minions movie is a prequel, we are taken back to prehistoric times, also known as the before Gru era. The beginning of Minion time was even before the cavemen and dinosaurs. How do we know? Well, the first part of the film rewinds to show the masters that have preceded Gru and why they are no longer their masters. Early spoilers indicated that the Minions somehow managed to cause all their leaders’ demises, and it turned out to be true. A T-Rex, a caveman, an Egyptian pharaoh, and Dracula, were all in the mix. They were also led by Napoleon, but ran away to a life of isolation after they angered him.

            3. What Minions Used to Wear

            Minions Overalls.jpg

            [source]

Minions are known for the denim bibs they sport in the Despicable Me movies. However, they didn’t start out wearing overalls. For every master they worked for, they had different attire. When they moved to Antarctica, they adapted the Eskimo lifestyle and dressed in brown parkas. When Kevin, Bob, and Stuart, travel to Orlando for Villain-Con they realize that it’s a little too hot for parkas in the south. They come across a clothes line with a few different clothing styles and Stuart begins to try them on. When none of the first options work, he reaches for the denim overalls. Since the overalls looked so great on Stuart, Kevin and Bob grabbed a pair as well!

                4. How the Minions Met Gru

                Bob Crowned King.png

                [source]

After meeting their new overlord, Scarlett Overkill, at Villain-Con, the Minions learn of her plans to steal the Queen of England’s crown. Through many, many Minion shenanigans, they try to steal the crown for Scarlett and somehow Bob gets crowned King. When Scarlett thinks the Minions have turned against her, she tries to kill them, even as they're apologizing. When Scarlett captures the crown, she begins to run away with her husband until they are both suddenly frozen. “FREEZE RAY!” A younger Gru runs up to the frozen Overkills and snatches the crown right from her hands as Kevin, Stuart, and Bob, watch in awe. Naturally, the Minions follow him as he departs.

                  Unanswered Questions About Minions

                    1. How Long Have the Minions Worked for Gru?

                    Minions and Gru.jpg

                    [source]

As the Minions film ends, we see the Minions chase after tiny Gru. Obviously the Despicable Me films don’t follow Gru’s life of crime until he is an adult, but that leaves a minimum of 15 years of uncertainty for the viewers. If the Minions followed Gru right away, have they been working for the criminal mastermind since his childhood? How have they managed to keep Gru alive that long? We saw them kill several previous masters in a matter of minutes in the new film, so what makes Gru so special?

                        2. Why Do Minions Wear Goggles?

                        Minions Without Goggles.jpg

                        [source]

The Minions’ choice of eye wear has never been addressed in any of the previous films, nor was it addressed in the new movie. When the Minions were the T-Rex’s henchmen, they wore leaves for clothes and their goggles appeared to be made of grass blades. (How those hold up is another question entirely.) It is never made clear if they have the goggles from birth (or first hatch?), but when the goggles are not on it is evident that they were meant to be there!

                            3. How Long Do Minions Live?

                            Minions Prehistoric Days.jpg

                            [source]

Now that we know Minions have been around since the beginning of time, or at least before the dinosaurs, we know that they are at least 65 million years old. Were Kevin, Stuart, and Bob, around since then? Have they aged? We still don’t know. If Minions truly have been around for that long, maybe they are eternal creatures and we can enjoy them forever! Yay! It’s a good thing evolution hasn’t reared its ugly head because they are perfect just the way they are.

                                4. How Do Minions Reproduce?

                                Stuart Hitting On Fire Hydrant.JPG

                                [source]

If Minions live forever, do they need to reproduce? If not, how did they come to be in the first place? It is clearly stated that all the Minions in the movies are male, so how could they reproduce anyway? Perhaps they are like clownfish where they are all born male and then a dominant male will change genders to reproduce. #GeekingOut. If they live forever, maybe reproduction isn’t necessary since the species will survive. Clearly their incompetence somehow keeps them alive even if their evil leaders perish.

Hopefully the 2017 Despicable Me 3 film can answer some of our lingering questions, and if yet another Minion movie is on the horizon, we won’t complain! Do you have your own questions about Minions? Can you answer any of ours? Let us know in the comments below. Halloween is just three short months away so head on over to check out our newly expanded Minion costume selection, with costumes from the Minions film!

Offering colorful and diverse casts, superheroes and superstars both make the perfect source material for group Halloween costumes.

The now famous catch phrase, "Yeah Baby," coupled with flashy 1960s-themed frilly shirts and blue velvet suits helped make this film an instant cult classic and an ever-popular group Halloween costume.

It’s hard to imagine Lara Croft, Assassin’s Creed, Halo, or even Angry Birds, without Super Mario Brothers & Nintendo blazing the trail. Somce the sites, sounds, and scenes, of the Super Mario World are so infused into the memories of entire generations, Mario and his colorful cast are sure to make a group Halloween costume that is instantly recognizable.

Here’s where our time travels get a bit rocky. The 70s were pivotal but unpredictable years, filled with subcultures, wild fashions, and a several popular musical styles. After the moon landing of 1969, the attitude of the 70s was one that looked to the future! Lucky for us, that futuristic focus made for some great Halloween costume inspiration!

Little needs to be said for the impact that the Star Wars legacy has had on the world, including every facet of pop culture, and of course, group costuming. Halloween just wouldn't be Halloween without seeing at least a few Darth Vaders, Boba Fetts, Luke Skywalkers, Princes Leias, or Chewbaccas, roaming about. With the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens on the horizion, suiting up as the classic chararcters from the original trilogy will have everyone feeling nostalgic tingles.

Back on Earth, the 70s provided us with a huge repertoire of amazing styles to style a group costume after. An earth-based but appropriately space-inspired group choice would be KISS! KISS dominated the music scene in the 70s, and left permanent imprints on our memories. Because of their bold makeup and eye-catching silhouettes (those boots!), KISS costumes are ever-present at Halloween parties across the nation.

“Ya-ba-da-ba-doo!” or do not?“Scooby Dooby Do!” or do not? These are the questions heavy on the minds of group costumers looking to capture the spirit of the 1960s. With distinct personalities, and costumes that are bright and simple, you can't go wrong with characters from either of these franchises!

What better way to celebrate a holiday where many folks wear masks, then to go out on the town dressed as everyone's favorite mystery solving team - unmask any villains as Fred, Velma, Daphne, Scooby, and Shaggy!

Alice in Wonderland hit the scene in the late 19th Century, and busted into pop culture with the 1951 Disney animated movie which reflected the innocence and imagination of the era. With an entire re-imagining of the film released in 2010 starring Johnny Depp (this was a far more twisted, psychedelic stance on the classic), it’s difficult to find a story more reproduced, adapted, or celebrated, than Alice in Wonderland.

Grease was released in the 1970s, but it was set amidst the leather jacket-wearing, Hot Rod-driving greasers of the 1950s. With highly distinguishable gangs - the T-Birds, Pink Ladies and the Scorpions - the role that costuming played in the movie translated immediately to a group costume niche that’s still widely explored today.

The uniforms of the brave men and women serving in the armed forces during World War II have since inspired countless days of dress-up. Another silhouette that remains popular today but hails from this era is the Pin-up Girl look. (These gals originally raised the morale of fighting men all over the world!) Today, both of these cultural landmarks make up a fair share of group costumes.

Who hasn’t thought about following the Yellow Brick road on Halloween at least once before? The 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, and its cast of enchanting creatures and characters, represents one of the most recreated group costumes out there. Of course this is because it is a timeless choice that brings joy to many generations, but also because there is such a large cast of both starring and supporting characters, that this theme can easily be adjusted for groups any size.

The affect of the Roaring Twenties on the group costuming scene is hard to ignore. An era where innocence gave way to prosperity in the wake of World War I, a collective sigh of relief and the warmth of peace influenced world culture in countless ways. The "Flapper Girls" and Gangster celebrities from the era typify the light and airy mood experienced by a world under reconstruction.

When it comes to Halloween, there’s really no better place to find costume ideas from than the pages of Batman. If the Dark Knight or his rogues gallery doesn't suit your costume needs, then look no further than Batman’s sidekick, Robin. In Batman’s 75 year history there have been many who have taken up the mantle of Robin. Batman has trained 4 different Robin's in his time as the Dark Knight, and each of them became like sons to Batman (one of them actually is Batman's son). Let us inspire you with their histories, their first costumes, and the costumes that each of them wear today!

                                  Dick Grayson – Nightwing

The first Robin, Richard ‘Dick’ Grayson, is the orphaned son of John and Mary Grayson. Together they formed The Flying Graysons, one of the world’s greatest acrobatic acts, for Haley's Circus. When the circus owner they worked for had a run in with the mob, the Graysons were used as an example, and Dick's parents were killed in front of a crowd of spectators. Dick entered the foster system, and was later adopted as a ward by Bruce Wayne. Eventually Dick would discover his guardian’s night time activities and join him as Robin the Boy Wonder. After growing up a bit as Robin, Dick would go out on his own as the costumed crusader Nightwing, and become his own brand of hero.

Jason Todd was raised on the mean streets of Gotham as the son of two petty criminals. Jason himself turned to crime after his father was sent to prison and his step-mother had a drug addiction. After a confrontation when Jason attempted to steal the tires off the Batmobile,  Batman would go on to adopt Jason and train him as Robin. Jason was as capable as Grayson, but far more aggressive. Jason would often go too far with particularly bad criminals, beating them to within an inch of their life. Jason would meet his end at the hands of the Joker in the “Death in the Family” story arc. Years later DC brought Jason back through Talia al Ghul’s intervention (and a well-placed Lazarus Pit).

At the age of 9, Tim Drake deduced the identities of Batman and Robin after watching Robin perform a quadruple somersault, a feat only the Flying Graysons were able to do. Four years after Jason Todd’s death, Tim would become the third Robin after convincing both Alfred and Nightwing that Batman needed a Robin to keep him grounded. Batman eventually agreed and put him through both physical and mental training before letting him ‘officially’ become Robin. Tim had a sharper intellect than Dick, and a more mild temperament than Jason. Tim would go on to lead the super-group The Teen Titans. Tim would eventually take on his own superhero persona, Red Robin, to fight crime solo.

                                    Damian Wayne – Robin

The son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, Damian Wayne was trained in secret by the League of Assassins for nearly a decade before being released into Bruce’s custody. He struggles with Batman’s no-kill rule, believing that death would provide the ultimate form of justice to Batman’s foes. When Bruce disappeared, believed dead by many, Damian acted as Robin to Dick Grayson, when he picks up the mantle of the Bat. Bruce would eventually return and allow Damian to continue as Robin, with Dick returning to duty as Nightwing.

The Fantastic Four has been fighting crime in the Marvel Universe for over 50 years, ever since they first appeared in The Fantastic Four #1, all thanks to the super-duo creative team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Countless comic issues, cartoons, and movies, have all been released since that first appearance, and, as expected, the quartet's costuming has changed quite a few times in these past decades. The newest movie, Fantastic Four, is out this July 2015, so we thought it would be a perfect time to pull together all of the group's looks in one infographic! This image shows 15 of the superheroes' notable outfits, and is narrated by the Invisible Woman herself, Sue Storm. We've also included an interactive slider at the top, so you can compare the Fantastic Four's look from 1961 to the actors from the 2015 film!

There is nothing that makes "cheek pinchers" swoon quite like a little baby. You might not be taking your newborn door-to-door hunting for candy, but on Halloween night it's still fun to dress them up in costume, regardless. Is there anything better than dressing up a cute little baby in a costume that they you love? It is important to take advantage of one of the only years where your child won't mock your taste in costumes or refuse to wear it. Your baby's first year of life is filled with lots of milestones and candid moments that can all be celebrated in costume one way or another. Whether you need newborn picture ideas, a Santa Claus outfit for your little guy's first Christmas, or the perfect baby Halloween costume, we've got just what you are looking for and so much more!

If you have a newborn, chances are they will sleep the whole night away anyway. If you want to keep them warm and cozy all while looking adorable, these are some great options. They are cuddly for baby and convenient for mom and dad. These costumes allow for easy transporting in the carseat so you don't have to take the costume on and off all night long, and most importantly, you don't have to wake your sleeping baby!

Isn't it amazing how some of the most feared insects and animals can be some of the most adorable looks for a baby? Animals are a very popular choice for kids' costumes, babies especially. Do you want a friendly bumble bee, a lion that's less than ferocious, or the cutest little peacock? Whatever animal or insect you choose, one thing is for certain: that baby of yours will be off the charts of the cuteness meter!

Your little one might not be up for fighting crime quite yet, but it's still fun to pretend! Do you have a bold Wonder Woman, a handsome Dark Knight, or perhaps a little Houdini who can scale the wall just like Spider-Man? They may not be able to fly (or even walk for that matter), but they sure seem to have supersonic speed when it's trouble they are after. The Flash would be proud!

Have you ever been snorkeling in an impressive reef, or watched Finding Nemo and realized how cool marine life really is? A 150 year old sea turtle? Where can WE get one of those?! Sure, sharks are a little scary, but when you put a baby inside a shark costume, there's no longer anything to fear! Pick up an under the sea themed costume for your little shrimp this year and you won't be disappointed.

Hats aren't just for Halloween. It has become an increasingly popular trend for newborns to be photographed with different hats and outfits so that all of the relatives can gawk at their cuteness. Not only are crocheted and knitted hats used for pictures, but a lighter hat is also perfect for chilly spring and fall months. Animals aren't just a popular Halloween trend, but many hats are now made to resemble some of the cutest critters (besides your own, that is).

Football Sunday might not be an official holiday (don't tell football fans), but it is still worthy of mention in this category, since one of the largest social gatherings takes place on Super Bowl Sunday! Christmas is also a fun time of year to dress up your little tyke. Santa, an elf, a reindeer, or the cutest snowman you've ever seen. Chances are they will be the best present under your Christmas tree this year. (And the cutest, of course!)

Most newborns love to be swaddled, which makes these bunting costumes perfect for Halloween night or a photography session with your baby. They will keep your child warm and wrapped tightly, giving them the secure feeling they love so much. Do you think these come in adult sizes? A nap sounds great right about now!

Add in a dancing banana and you’ve got yourself the opportunity to sing “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” all night long.

Don’t wear this to the kid’s party, though, unless you want to be the ones explaining "the birds and the bees" to young ones. Woody Woodpecker is just one bird option, but a great way to add some flare to this costume

Candy corn is one of the most polarizing sweets associated with the Halloween season. Fans love it and look forward to consuming it by the ton, while people who dislike it seem to hate it with the fiery passion of 1000 suns. Should you choose to dress as “Candy Corn” we can promise you’ll hear the phrases, “I hate Candy Corn,” and “I Love Candy Corn,” at least once.

Since our first edition of Far Far Away Fashion was so well received, the wait for a follow up might have been less than enjoyable (but still better than waiting for The Force Awakens to come out). Well, the wait is over (one of the waits, anyway...) and we're happy to present to you this Republic Edition costume guide! Straight from George Lucas's Star Wars prequels, we have broken down some of your favorite characters' main costumes.

There was a serious debate over which of Padme's 12 gazillion costume changes to include, but we tried to pick out the most memorable fashion moments. With Anakin and Obi-Wan included for good measure, we have the looks of your three favorite heroes of the Republic. Well...heroes per se. That whole Darth Vader thing with Anakin is still a bit hard to swallow.  (How did the little Ani who won our hearts with his Podracing exploits turn out to be the worst villain of all time??) You can use this infographic to check out his transformation, and it's a great way to study up on the rest of your favorite prequel looks, too!

So what do you think? Love the style of the prequel series? Not so much? Whether you have fond memories, or are still confused as to why Gungans live in bubble domes, we want to know! Leave us a comment below, hit us up on Facebook, tweet us, or climb up on top of your replica Jedi Temple and send us smoke signals from afar! We're going to climb back into our meditation chambers and just slowly, slowly wait for the J.J. Abram's iteration of Star Wars to hit the theaters. (Well, except for that whole Halloween thing. Our bosses might want us to show up to work for that.) And, of course, we have a robust selection of Padme, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Star Wars costumes in general, so suit yourself up for the new movie or for any night of fun in that fabled galaxy far, far away.

If you haven't been living under a rock over the past 50 years, you already know that Disney is pretty big. You can’t go out on Halloween without seeing several Disney-related costumes. While Disney boasts a ton of classic movies with endless numbers of beloved characters, some of their more recent releases feature memorable characters that are already being welcomed into the fold with open arms by both kids and adults. Don’t forget that both Star Wars and Marvel are now properties of Disney as well. With ALL the options available, we've laid some groundwork for you and picked out a few of the top Disney costumes for Halloween 2015!

Inside Out is the latest film from Disney and Pixar studios. It explores the emotions of a young girl named Riley who is going through a difficult time when her family moves from Minnesota to California. The thing that makes the story fun and unique is that it’s mostly told from the perspective of Riley's feelings, little beings inside her head that control her mind through a control panel.

Joy is the leader of the group and learns through this journey that sometimes other emotions, like sadness and anger, need to take control at times. Just remember, if you dress as one of the emotions for Halloween, you don't need to act like that emotion for the whole night -especially if you choose disgust or anger!

With the success of superheroes on the big screen in recent years, it’s no surprise that Disney released a superhero film aimed at younger audiences. Big Hero 6 was a massive hit and people can’t enough Baymax. Now you can dress up as the lovable, albeit sometimes clumsy, personal healthcare companion for Halloween! Whether you want dress in his red battle armor or just the classic white design, there's a Baymax costume for both kids and adults. Both versions are really cool, but unfortunately neither will give you supreme healthcare tools or advanced ninja skills. If you seek medical help, still call a doctor. If you need to fight someone, call a ninja.

Frozen became an instant classic when it was released and still remains one of the most popular Disney film of recent years. In fact, popularity was so high that Disney released a “sing-along” version of the film a year later -just in case you don't already know all the words to “Let It Go." Disney princesses are nothing new when it comes to Halloween costumes (see below), but Anna and Elsa may be near the top of the list for the foreseeable future. It's an especially great Halloween choice for two sisters, or two gal pals!

Now, with Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm and the anticipation of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, Star Wars mania is back and bigger than ever! But lets be real, even with the disappointment that was Episodes I-III, Star Wars hype never went away. While being acquired by Disney in 2009, Marvel was already on it’s way to becoming a cinematic powerhouse. Ever since the release of their first movie back in 2012, The Avengers have not only been Earth’s mightiest heroes, but also Earth’s most popular heroes. Earlier this year, we had the second Avengers team-up on screen with Age of Ultron in May, and the team is set to re-appear in next years “Captain America: Civil War.” Superhero costumes have always been popular through the years, but The Avengers will surely reign supreme for Halloween 2015.

As we mentioned before, Disney has always had a seemingly endless list of classic characters. One of the most common classics for dressing up as are the princesses. From original favorites like Cinderella, to more modern princesses like Tiana or Rapunzel, and even fan favorites like Ariel and Belle, there’s a dress to match any girl’s (or woman's!) style. With the hightened popularity of new characters Elsa and Anna, Halloween 2015 might just be all about the Disney Princesses.

Although the shows feature original characters and storylines, they also take place in the worlds of other, well-known Disney characters. For example, Peter Pan shows up on occasion to help out Jake and his pirate crew, or Sophia the First, a princess-in-training, receives tips and learns lessons from other Disney princesses at times. Attack on Titan (aka 進撃の巨人 or Shingeki no Kyojin) made a colossal splash on pop culture the last few years. From the pages of the unstoppable Japanese manga to the anime series you couldn’t peel your bloodshot eyes away from, Attack on Titan took the world by gnashing-toothed storm. And the storm only seems to intensify with time!

There was the live-action movie making a footprint on Comic-Con, wild speculation about the true nature and origins of Titans, and “leaked” information that brewed the perfect storm for fans and YouTube/Wikia speculators. Yep, the mystery mingled with misinformation created a steamy mess that we couldn't resist. So, we tried to do some untangling by dredging up information that true fans might appreciate. Again, proceed with caution, but if you can still enjoy a show or manga with a little bit of the backstory in your noggin, then spoil away friends!

The second infographic underneath, Classified: Known Titan Shifters, also includes TITANIC - potentially show/manga RUINING - spoilers. Last, there is potentially some speculation that may be written out of the plot, as all of the enclosed information was learned on shingekinokyojin.wikia.com,and we can't control what happens from this point. You know, should the writers change their direction or what have you! In other words, take it with a grain of salt, and don't beat us about the head and nape of the neck if anything changes down the way.

Legendary Jedi heroes Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are renowned for their roles in The Clone Wars, and for Anakin’s transformation into Darth Vader. Less renown, though arguably as important, are the Clone Troopers and officers who helped these Jedi find success in the war. The clones from Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, and The Clone Wars T.V. show, offer up the perfect companion costumes for those who don’t want to dress as Lightsaber-wielding Jedi or Sith. If you’re more comfortable with a Blaster than a Lightsaber, consider these Clone Wars heroes for your next Star Wars themed costume!

Considering that there were thousands of clones created during the Clone Wars, there is the option of dressing as one of the standard grunt troopers from the Grand Army of the Republic. These grunts were usually fresh from training and normally had no name designation, instead identifying with a number. Their armor was standard issue, and if it bore any coloring at all it was generally that of their unit (the 501st used blue coloring for example). Do you have a group of friends looking for a great group Star Wars costume idea? Consider using combinations of grunt troopers and officers to form your own squad!

Captain Rex was one of the most influential members of the Grand Army of the Republic and one of the main characters in The Clone Wars television show. Acting as commanding officer to General Anakin Skywalker, Rex participated in many of the most pivotal battles of the Clone Wars and always came out on top. Rex was outfitted with custom armor that featured the white/blue colors of his unit, the legendary 501st Legion. His armor featured the traditional Mandalorian Jaig (the symbols above his visor, pictured above), a ‘kama’ armored kilt, and a rangefinder built into the helmet. Similar to Jango Fett, the bounty hunter he was cloned from, Rex preferred to use his twin DC-17 hand blasters in place of the standard issue DC-15A assult rifle.

Commander Fox is the no nonsense head of the "Shock Troopers" in charge of security for the Galactic Senate and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Known officially as the Coruscant Guard, the famed Fox and his squad were involved in many conflicts including the capture of Ziro the Hutt. Fox also lead the troopers in their confrontation with bounty hunter Cad Bane. Commander Fox wears the standard configuration of Phase I and Phase II Clone Trooper armor with additional communication and tactical improvements. His gear included both the DC-15A rifle and the DC-17 hand blasters located in his armored kama. Commander Fox’s armor was painted the crimson coloring of the Coruscant Guard.

Commander Cody was the clone marshal commander in charge of the 212th attack battalion alongside legendary Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi. Similar to the relationship between Captain Rex and General Anakin Skywalker, Cody and Kenobi formed a bond that made them even better soldiers. Ever the servant of the Republic, however, Cody betrayed Kenobi after the issuing of Order 66. Commander Cody is often seen equipped with standard commander-type Phase I and Phase II armor, including a built in range finder, communications antenna, blaster rifle, and an equipment pack. Cody’s armor was colored yellow-orange to signify his ranking as marshal commander.

Commander Gree is an alien species specialist in command of the 41st Elite Corps, led by Jedi Luminara Unduli. Gree would also go on to serve on the Wookiee home world of Kashyyyk in the closing days of the Clone Wars, alongside Jedi Master Yoda. It was here that he met his end at the hands of Yoda, after he and another trooper attempted to kill Master Yoda upon receiving Order 66 from Chancellor Palpatine. Commander Gree’s equipment included a black bandolier he wore across his chest, and standard Phase I and Phase II armor, colored green for his unit designation. Gree used a camouflaged variant of his Phase II armor on Kashyyyk.

Boba Fett is a clone, though unaltered like his clone trooper brothers, and one of the most infamous characters from the Star Wars universe. When Jango Fett agreed to become the template for the Clone Army, a portion of his payment was one unaltered clone. He named the clone Boba and raised him as his son, teaching him everything he knew. After witnessing his father's death at the hands of Mace Windu, Boba would go on to become an infamous bounty hunter in his own right. In adulthood, Boba became one of the most successful bounty hunters in the galaxy, even coming under the employment of the Galactic Empire and Darth Vader. Boba Fett wore traditional Mandalorian armor similar to his father’s. The armor included a rocket launching jetpack, flame thrower, dart firing gauntlets, a disintegration rifle, blaster pistol, concussion grenade launcher, and HUD equipped helmet.
