DIY Inside Out Bing Bong Costume [Contains Spoilers]

Bing Bong Header

Inside Out was one of the top kids movies of the year. Unlike Minions, which set box office records for animated movies, Inside Out was universally enjoyed by people of all ages. Everyone loved following the story of Riley and the five emotions that live inside her head controlling her: Anger, Fear, Disgust, Sadness, and Joy. However, there was one character who stole the show and his name is Bing Bong! Here's how to complete out your Inside Out group this year, with a do-it-yourself style Bing Bong costume!

DIY Bing Bong Costume

Bing Bong

If you haven't seen the movie, you may want to skip this paragraph as it contains spoilers. Bing Bong is the imaginary friend of main character Riley. He and Riley would always play together when she was younger. They’d even take trips to the moon in his “rocket ship” (that was actually made from Riley’s wagon). But now that Riley is older and doesn’t need an imaginary friend, he wanders around her long-term memory trying to avoid getting sent to the memory dump where memories are forgotten forever.

At one point in the film, Bing Bong and Joy both fall into the memory dump and Bing Bong sacrifices himself to get Joy out. After Joy gets out of the dump and looks back in to see Bing Bong fading away from Riley’s mind, she gets one final request from him: “Take her to the moon for me.” At that moment, every single person in every single theater either had a single tear on their face...or they were ugly crying something fierce.

The Finished Look

Bing Bong DIY

Here's the finished look of our DIY costume. Now, all you have to do is learn the catchy song. "Who's your friend who likes to play? Bing Bong! Bing Bong!" Bing Bong was such a memorable character, we couldn't help put together our own DIY costume. However, not every DIY costume requires hours of research and crafting. This costume can be put together quickly with just a handful of simple products and accessories. Here's what you'll need to dress like everyone's favorite imaginary friend.

Mini Bowler Hat - Shop     Pink Elephant Costume - Shop     Black Glovers - Shop

Purple Bow Tie - Shop     Cheshire Cat Tail - Shop     Purple Hair Color - Shop

Bing Bong states that he’s part cat, part elephant, part dolphin (he does a mean dolphin call), and he’s mostly made of cotton candy. While cotton candy is delicious, it doesn’t make for a very sturdy Halloween costume. So since Bing Bong looks mostly like an elephant, we went for the pink elephant costume. To get the rest of the look, you’ll need to raid your local thrift store for a black coat. For the flower, we cut the one off of the wand that comes with the Rainbow Fairy costume. The colors and design are a near-perfect match! For the tail, we used our cheshire cat tail accessory and a little purple hair spray to get the color just right. Top off the look with fingerless gloves, a mini bowler hat, and a purple bow tie!

Have you seen Inside Out? Which emotion is your favorite? Our Bing Bong DIY is quick and easy to put together if you feel like dressing up as him for Halloween. Otherwise, you can check out our selection of ready-to-wear Inside Out costumes. With so many characters to choose from, Inside Out can be a great theme for couples or groups as well!

Adult Halloween Costumes.jpg

Work, bills, and responsibilities. Ugh! Growing up sure seems to be the pits, but it's not all bad! You can eat ice cream any time you want, you can stay up late, and you don't have to answer to your parents when choosing your Halloween costume. Let's face it, our parents all made us wear a humiliating costume at one point in time! Did we mention that adult Halloween costumes are way cooler than the ones for kids? Don't believe it? Check out some of these adult costumes and prepare to have a whole new perspective on adult life.

Men's Movie Costumes

Movie Men's Costumes.jpg

Top Gun Costume - Shop       Scarecrow Costume - Shop       Joker Costume - Shop

Mr. Incredible Costume - Shop       Marty McFly Costume - Shop        Forrest Gump Costume - Shop

Men's costumes have come a long way and these aren't the days of old when guys could only choose between a sheet with holes in it and a devil costume. Those costumes are classics, but nowadays, you can be everything from Marty McFly to The Joker. With choices like that, you can save your sheets for building blanket forts in the living room. (Just because you're an adult doesn't mean you have to stop building blanket forts).

Books and Television Costumes

Books & TV Men's Costumes.jpg

Alf Costume - Shop       Popeye Costume - Shop       Fred Flinstone Costume - Shop

Bender Costume - Shop        Waldo Costume - Shop       Goku Costume - Shop

Television is another big part of being an adult. After a hard day's work, sometimes you want to just veg out on the couch with your favorite shows. So, of course, costumes based on the best TV shows are kind of a no-brainer. Whether you feel like showing everyone how you remember the exact movements of Kamehameha Wave in a Goku Costume, or you want a reason to yell Bender quotes without getting funny looks from strangers, these costumes will serve you well.

Funny Costumes

Funny Men's Costumes.jpg

Ted Costume - Shop       Lt. Dangle Costume - Shop       German Beer Man Costume - Shop

A good laugh is priceless. When you're a kid, everything is funny, from boogers to knock-knock jokes. Adults have a more refined sense of humor! Okay, so maybe that's not true. What's funny is funny and these costumes don't pull any punches. You should get more than a few chuckles while wearing these costumes. Heck, you won't even need to use any of your “chicken who crossed the road” jokes to get a laugh.

Women's Movie Costumes

Movie Women's Costumes.jpg

Ladies have it made when it comes to costumes. The days of choosing between a witch and a....witch are gone! If you've got a favorite movie, then there's probably a costume to go along with it. Minions, Top Gun, A League of Their Own? The only thing you can't be is the kitchen sink from that one scene in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Word on the street is that someone is working on a kitchen sink costume, but until then, you can still dress up like Jessica Rabbit.

Timeless Womens Costumes

Timeless Women's Costumes.jpg

Some things never go out of style, like chocolate, smiles, and convertible cars. Other things? Well, they don't stick around for very long. (Pet Rocks, slap bracelets, and Snuggies, here's looking at you).  From Marilyn Monroe to the classic beauties of the roaring 20's, these timeless costumes are the kind of thing a girl can wear year after year, without having to worry about them loosing appeal. (On second thought, Snuggies are still totally awesome).

Sexy Costumes

Despite what your dad might think, you're not exactly a little girl any more. Chances are, other people have begun noticing that too. These sexy costumes help show off your best curves, so you can look good and feel good. Of course, dad might not approve of all of these outfits, but what he doesn't know can't hurt him, right? Actually, you might be able to sell him on the Wonder Woman Costume if he watched the 1970's TV show when he was younger.

Men's Big and Tall Costumes

Men's Plus Size Costumes.jpg

T-Bird Jacket - Shop       Mario Costume - Shop       Sulley Costume - Shop

Stormtrooper Costume - Shop        Duffman Costume - Shop       Tin Man Costume - Shop

Not every guy is built like a stick of celery, so why should all the good costumes fit tiny guys? How about taking a stand against it! If you're man who has some meat on his bones, then you can appreciate being able to select from a variety of men's plus size costumes that will fit. With styles like Super Mario, Duffman and even Stormtrooper suits, you won't get stuck with some lame costume, just because it's the only one that fits.

Women's Plus Size Costumes

Women's Plus Size Costumes.jpg

Roman Empress Costume - Shop        Alice Costume - Shop       Little Red Riding Hood Costume - Shop

Got some curves that are a little too voluptuous for a small? Beautiful comes in more than one size and so should costumes! The selections for full figured women haven't always been the best in the past, but these days, cute styles come in all sizes. From sassy pirate, to Roman empress, it's easy to find a style that fits your taste and body.

Maternity Costumes

Maternity Costumes.jpg

Devil Costume - Shop       Angel Costume - Shop       Fairy Costume - Shop

Bun in the Oven Costume - Shop       Rag Doll Costume - Shop       Pregnant Nun Costume - Shop

Having a bun in the oven doesn't mean you have to sit around the house while everyone else has a good time. Get out there and shake your groove thing! What's good for mommy is good for the baby, so having fun should on your list for prenatal care. These maternity costumes make it pretty easy for pregnant women to find something to wear to the party too.

There you have it! A few more reasons why it's okay to be an adult. Of course, if you still really want to feel like a kid, you could see if your mom will let you move back into the basement, but grabbing one of these adult Halloween costumes and celebrating your adulthood is probably a much better idea. How do you plan to celebrate? Share your ideas with us in the comments below and don't forget that you are never too old for Halloween!

Thinking 4th Dimensionally: Back to the Future

The world  may have waited 30 years only to find out that we don't have hover cars, dog walking drones, or fully-functional hoverboards (thanks a lot, Father Time!), but that doesn't mean we can't think 4th Dimensionally. Here today, just over a week away from October 21, 2015 - the day when Marty McFly, Jennifer Parker and Doc Brown famously ventured into the future in Back to the Future Part II - we have the distinct pleasure of seeing beyond our past to take stock of our "future".

In the spirit of exploring the delecate fabric of the space-time continuum, we bring you three cross-sections of time from the Back to the Future trilogy. And quite literally, we've pulled apart the threads to explore the principle costumes worn by Marty McFly, Doc Brown, and Biff Tannen throughout 1985, 1955, 2015, and 1985. Cosplayers delight - this is your source for finding the Back to the Future costume that no one else thought of for Halloween 2015! Enjoy the ride.

(2)Deadpool loves irreverent humor, puns, and breaking the fourth wall. No matter what, it's going to be entertaining, and no matter what, this simple Deadpool pumpkin is...smashing.

6. Jurassic World "Pratt-ing" Pumpkin

Jurassic World Pratting Pumpkin

The Indominous Rex was cool and all, but Velociraptors Charlie, Delta, Echo, and Blue, really stole the show in this summer's record-breaking Blockbuster, Jurassic World. They were fast, fierce, and fiery tempered, so the notion that Owen Grady (played by Chris Pratt) had at least partial control over them, elevated him to instant idol status. He was even emulated by zookepers across the world, who tried their own hands at Pratt-ing. If you pull off this detailed pattern, maybe you'll earn the respect of your very own raptor squad!

Did you know that there's a "glitch" (we're calling it that because it had better not have been on purpose...) in the new Mario Maker Nintendo game, where Mario eats a "Luigi mushroom" and turns into...SKINNY MARIO? Skinny Mario has been labeled as "an atrocity," "an abomination," "a horror," "terrifying..." you get the idea. The cool thing is that all of those adjectives are totally perfect for Halloween, when it's practically the goal to be as scary as possible! Our team was too creeped out to even attempt carving the skinny Mario pattern, so they carved a classic 8-bit Mario instead. But go ahead and print the PDF below. If you dare.

How is it that Kanye West alwaysss manages to pull off some attention-grabbing, controversial stunt at the MTV VMAs? In 2009, it was when he famously interrupted Taylor Swift in the middle of her acceptance speech. In 2015, it was the announcement during his "Video Vanguard" acceptance speech, that he intends to run for president in the year 2020.There's literally nothing else to say about this pumpkin, as we're still in shock. Is he kidding? Is he serious? Does he just have the best PR team ever? All we can hope is that if your mom calls you to dinner while carving this pattern, she sees how great it is and simply says, "Imma let you finish."

Minimal Goosebumps: Posters Based on R.L. Stine’s Bone-Chilling Books

There was a time when children’s horror wasn’t a mainstream concept. Kids were either forbidden from reading or watching horror, or they had to watch made-for-adults horror alongside their parents. But then R.L. Stine started writing Goosebumps, his wildly successful series of horror novellas for children. How successful? Over 350 million copies sold successful! Then came the Goosebumps television series, games, and other merchandise. And now there’s a feature film starring Jack Black. (Talk about finding a niche, R.L.! Can we call you R.L.?) We’re fans of horror of all kinds, so we made these minimalist posters based on some of our favorite Goosebumps books. All of the posters are clickable for larger versions.

“Don't hide in the closet! Run out of the house! Oh my gosh, would someone turn a stinkin' light on!?” If you're anything like us, it's impossible to watch a scary movie without yelling at the characters. Horror movie characters are notorious for their bonehead decisions. Silly teenagers will purposely summon a demonic spirit, then wonder why all their friends are suddenly found with their eyeballs sucked out. That's the beauty of horror movies, though! You can always count on lots of foolish mistakes that result in gruesome death scenes. If you go gaga for gore and guts, take our quiz to find out how YOU would kick the bucket. Spoiler alert: no one is getting out alive!

DIY Five Nights at Freddy's DIY Group Costume

Five-Nights-Header.jpg

Indie games have become more and more popular in recent years, but no title took the gaming community by storm like Five Nights at Freddy’s. Released on August 8, 2014, the game was such a critical success that it spawned 3 sequels (plus and upcoming RPG spinoff made by the same developer), a movie, and hundreds of YouTube videos of “Let’s plays” where you literally watch someone play the game and see their reactions to the gameplay. In Five Nights at Freddy’s, you play as a security guard that has to last through the night shift without getting caught by the haunted animatronics. You have a limited supply of power to use for the mechanical doors that keep the bad guys out and each night gets more and more difficult. Some people enjoy the eerie animation and jump scares, while others find the game is truly terrifying.

Besides the jump scares, another thing that makes the game so scary is the characters themselves! The main villains are the animatronic band at the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza restaurant: Bonnie the bunny, Chica the chicken, and Freddy Fazbear. While each subsequent game in the franchise dives a little deeper into the story of what made these characters what they are, the simple story in the beginning is that they are left in “free-roam mode” during the night so they can wander the restaurant. They aren’t allowed to roam free during the day since an incident known as “The Bite of ‘87.” It’s also revealed that if they come across anything else moving, such as a lonely security guard, they will try to stuff them into one of the extra animatronic suits “where they belong.” Each member of the band has their own unique look, and while dressing like an animatronic may seem like a daunting task, we’re going to show you an easy way to do it with our Five Nights at Freddy’s DIY costumes!

DIY Five Nights at Freddy's Bonnie Costume

FNAF Bonnie.png

This bunny is here to party...and eat your soul!

Bonnie the purple bunny is the guitarist in the Freddy Fazbear Band. He shows up more than any of the other animatronics, both on the security cameras and in the doorway of the office as you’re about to meet your impending doom.

Bonnie Attack

The Finished Look

Five-Nights-A.jpg

Aside from being a bunny, Bonnie’s key appearance traits are a red bow tie and purple fur. Using our own bunny costume, we applied purple hair spray to get the color right. Using fabric dye in the wash might be an easier option that’s just as effective, but you may not get the contrasting color on the body. Pull the look together with a red bow tie, duct tape bands for the robotic look, and some eye black.

DIY Five Nights at Freddy's Chica Costume

FNAF Chica.jpg

Oh, hi there... Are you lookin' for something?

Chica the chicken is the backup singer in the band and, quite frankly, the most terrifying of the group. She’s notorious for her death stare as she looks in on you, the helpless security guard through the office window (see above image). Chica wears a bib that says “Let’s Eat” on it, which is exactly what it looks like she wants to do when she jumps out at you.

Chica Attack

The Finished Look

Five-Nights-B.jpg

If you want to dress as Chica for Halloween, we recommend our adult ducky costume as it resembles the character perfectly. To get the bib, we’ve included a free printable, a graphic which we then printed onto a white shirt using our custom t-shirt creator. (Then just cut the t-shirt into a proper bib shape!) You can get the printable design by clicking HERE. Again, all you need is a little duct tape to get the animatronic effect.

DIY Five Nights at Freddy's Freddy Fazbear Costume

FNAF Freddy.jpg

What? You weren't planning on sleeping tonight, were you?

Freddy Fazbear is the lead singer of the band and titular character in Five Night’s at Freddy’s. His menacing laugh can be heard during the game. Like the others, Freddy will attack during gameplay if you let your guard down. However, if you happen to run out of power, Freddy’s face will flash in the hallway and a creepy jack-in-the-box-like song will play before he appears out of nowhere and jumps at you.

Freddy Attack

The Finished Look

Five-Nights-C.jpg

For Freddy’s look, we went with a classic bear costume with duct tape-wrapped joints. Accessorize your costume with a mini top hat, black bow tie, and microphone prop. As with the Bonnie costume, eye black is a nice touch to add a little more fright to your character.

“You’ve taken your first step into a larger world…”

Okay, so Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens isn’t even out yet, but Star Wars fans can’t contain their Death Star-sized excitement. Our normal countdown clock is usually for Halloween, but this year it's set to December 17th because that’s when Star Wars is finally back in theaters. After that day we'll finally be able to stop asking ourselves the big questions, like: will Chewie finally beat C-3PO at Holochess? Will BB-8 and R2-D2 be BFFs? Is Kylo Ren really just Ponda Baba in disguise? Yep, the big questions. But since Halloween is our specialty, we decided to make some really wizard Star Wars printable patterns for all you fellow fans out there who might want to add a little galaxy far, far away into your All Hallow's Eve celebrations.

The Force is strong with you, but you are not a Pumpkin Master… yet.

There’s no shame in being a Pumpkin Padawan! These are simple to moderate patterns that anyone can print off, stencil, carve, and display. Just follow the pattern and look at the code in the corner. White represents pumpkin that is to be left whole, and black areas are the parts you will need to cut out.

DIY Jurassic World Costumes: Clare Dearing and Owen Grady Raptor Training

DIY Chris Pratt Pratting Costume

There were LOTS of memorable moments in Jurassic World. There was a lady that got eaten by a dinosaur that got eaten by a dinosaur (kind of like a human tur-duck-en), there was the guy who made sure to grab both of his margaritas in the midst of a Pteranodon attack, there was that strange cameo by Jimmy Fallon, and, of course, the scene that stole the show: raptor training with Owen Grady. When Chris Pratt's character stared into the eyes of three vicious Velociraptors, "BLUE, STAND DOWN," audiences were entranced. The raptor paddock scene was so memorable, "DELTA, I SEE YOU, BACK UP," that it even spawned a Meme now known as "Pratt-ing" or "Prattkeeping."

Jurassic World costumes are going to be some of the most popular choices for Halloween 2015, so if you really want to stand out from the [raptor] pack, give our Pratt-ing costume tutorial a try. "BLUE, WHAT DID I JUST SAY?" We've also included a simple tutorial on how to make this a couples idea, with a DIY Clare Dearing costume. Just remember, don't turn your back on the cage, and if something chases you, RUN!

Until InGen successfully hatches baby dinosaurs in the real world, you're not going to be able to get your hands on three Velociraptors to use for this costume, so you'll have to go with another option for assembling your raptor squad. One idea would be to grab three friends, stick them in these dinosaur masks, and CIAD. Short three friends, however, we opted to cook up a "raptor mobile" for one! It may look a bit complicated, but all you need is the harness and plastic piping from our shower costume, fishing line, and a few raptor costumes originally intended for dogs!

Our shower curtain costume includes a flesh-tone harness and tubes that are easily snaped together to form a hoop. All you need to do is snap off the shower head portion, and seriously you're almost done! We stuffed the three raptor pet costumes with some tissue paper to keep them as light as possible while still giving them some body. Then, we secured each raptor to the hoop with fishing line. You'll probably need some assistance helping you into the rest of the costume once you're strapped in, but then you're good to go! Shouting things like, "BLUE, STAND DOWN," is a must throughout the evening. So is ducking through doorways.

DIY Jurassic World Clare Dearing Costume

Anyone who has had a job "working for the man" can identify with Clare Dearing's need to go along with what the "suits at corporate" say. But when "corporate" tells you to invent a genetically modified, man-eating, prehistoric super predator just to up the 'wow' factor at your theme park, you may want to consider updating your resume, you know, just to see what else is out there. #JustSayin. Anyway, like her or not, Clare's wardrobe and hair were rather stunning, and they're quite simple to replicate for a quick Halloween costume! We know, "don't wear white after Labor Day," but if you ask us that rule is dead. Then again, so were dinosaurs...

The wig is probably the most signature part of Clare's look, and our bright red bob does the job perfectly! After that, you'll want to layer on several pieces of crisp white clothing. We simply shortened the hem of our long white hoop skirt with a pair of sharp scissors, and topped off the ensemble with the white blazer from our children's white suit costume. (Where else are you going to find a smart blazer for under thirty bucks??) We lopped off one of the straps from a pair of our white suspenders, and used it as a waist belt. Lastly, don't forget the finishing touch: a pair of nude heels. For what better footwear than that, to run from a thousand-foot Indominus Rex?

Jurassic Couple: Clare & Owen Couples Costume

Jurassic World Owen and Clare Couples Costume

Nothing strengthens a fledgling relationship like fending off prehistoric predators and fighting for your life!

Jurassic World is a film rife with one-liners, so have your favorite quoatables prepared if you choose to head out on town dressed as these two trendy characters. You can even give the quotes a Halloween party twist: "You just went and made a new dinosaur cocktail? Probably not a good idea." "What happened to the sibling candy? She ate it."

Will you give this hilarious "Pratt-ing" costume a try, or do you prefer a more demure costume like Clare? What's your favorite Jurassic World one-liner? Let us know in the comments below. The Evolution of Master Chief [Infographic]

Halo-Infographic-HEADER.png

The best video games immerse the player in the action, taking them to a fantastic world of escape and entertainment. Game designers have plenty of tricks they can use to achieve this, but none are more effective than a nameless, faceless, and mostly silent narrator. Link, from the Legend of Zelda series is one example of this archetype; he is a taciturn hero that is used as an avatar to “link” the player to the game. Master Chief from the Halo franchise is one of the most popular and modern examples.

A hulking, powerful, space-marine, Master Chief is a cybernetically-enhanced supersoldier with little to no personality. This allows players to project their own selves onto this otherworldly icon of human heroism and science fiction awesomeness. The look of Master Chief has subtly evolved over the years, with his tank-like appearance being smoothed and modernized. Take a look at how this iconic, first-person avatar has changed through the years with this combat-ready infographic.

“Well sir, I don’t know how much value I have in this universe. But I do know I made a few people happier than they would’ve been without me, as long as I know that, I’m as rich as I’ll ever need to be.”

– Robin Williams as Mork, from Mork and Mindy

Robin Williams' passing in 2014 left the world a little less bright and a little less funny. Mr. Williams was one of those rare performers who could inspire rolling laughter and flowing tears in the same scene. It is now more than one year after his tragic passing and we still miss having him around. We have always been inspired by the amazing characters that Robin Williams has portrayed over his long and robust career. In honor of this colorful cast of characters, we would like to offer up this group costume idea in honor of one of the best funnymen around.

This is the character that rocketed Robin Williams into stardom! Williams first appeared as the alien Mork on Happy Days, and then in the titular role in Mork and Mindy. Robin Williams impressed producers with his unique brand of manic improv humor. Mork’s catchphrases ‘Na-Nu Na-Nu’ and ‘Shazbot’ quickly became part of popular culture.

This costume is based on Mort’s flight suit—the brightly colored outfit he wore on his arrival on Earth. A bright red jump suit, silver boots and gloves, and a few shiny accessories, and you are on your way to the perfect Ork-ish space suit. You could also choose to go the rout of his brightly colored, often striped, shirt and rainbow suspenders look.

The accents on the costume required a little crafting on our part. We used one of our favorite crafting materials—duct tape! Rolls and strips of magazine paper were used as the base and duct tape provided the substance and coloring. We adhered the duct tape pieces to the jump suit using double sided tape and satety pins.

This 1993 film told the story of a father who dresses as an elderly nanny in order to spend time with his kids while separated from his wife. Robin Williams played the titular role, and the makeup artists who transformed Williams into Mrs. Doubtfire won an academy award, because lets be honest, if you can turn Robin Williams into a woman you deserve some kind of award.

This character makes for a perfect member of your group costume, as the character can be played by a guy or a gal! Williams has a ton of wardrobe changes and interesting scenes (we remember a certain situation with burning latex in the kitchen) that you could choose from. Maybe even the merangue facial look?? One lump or two?

After being trapped in the mystical board game Jumanji for 26 years years, Alan Parish is released looking like a wild-man. He traps a lion before running off to find his family. While he only wears this outfit for a few scenes, the look is iconic and would be an instantly recognizable addition to your group.

A simple tunic, some plastic banana leaves, and a sun hat, will give you the clothes you need. Our various beard/long hair combos are one option for getting the facial hair right—but a real die-hard DIY’er could just let their razor get some rest, and grow the majestic beard needed to pull this costume together.

Feel free to experiment with any sort of leaf-like accessory. In fact, if you happen to live near or in a jungle this costume will be exceedingly easy to make. Just remember - in the jungle you must wait, until the dice read 5 or 8.

DIY Peter Pan Costume From Hook

Peter Pan Hook Reference

[Source]

Hook tells the story of a Peter Pan all grown up, with Robin Williams playing the now-adult Peter. He loses his imagination along with his ability after spending too much time in the "real world." After finding his teddy bear, and his happy thought, he regains his ability to fly and saves the day, and his children.

The Finished Look

Peter Pan Hook DIY Costume

Pan is another great choice for a gender swapped costume—as Pan can easily be a woman. We used a classic Peter Pan costume with some additions to complete the look. If you really want to go all out, a golden-bladed, coconut hand guard sword will really tie the piece together. Fair warning, be sure to find your happy thought and a healthy amount of fairy dust before attempting flight (seriously though, you probably can’t fly so don’t try!).

We created a version of Pan’s Sword by combining our Knight’s Sword Accessory with some gold paint and one half of a coconut bra. Remove the outer portions of the handguard on the sword and cut a slit though the coconut (easier said than done). Slide the sword through the slit and paint it gold, and you’ve got yourself a sword fit for Pan. We used power tools, so if you plan on using power tools be sure you know what you’re doing—or else you might be better off being Captain Hook for Halloween.

DIY Theodore Roosevelt Costume From Night at the Museum

This is one of the last roles Robin Williams played, and also one of the most memorable. Williams played a statue of President Roosevelt from his Rough Rider days that comes to life. Robin's Roosevelt acted as advisor to Ben Stiller’s character.

Theodore Roosevelt DIY Costume

A complete Roosevelt costume as the base is probably best here, unless you happen to have Spanish-American War fatigues laying around. We added on a couple of key accessories to really drive the costume home. Mustache and horst prop are both must-haves.

This costume is all about the accessories. A basic tan fatigue outfit is easy enough to find, however the sword, glasses, play horse, leather belt, and boots really drive the look home. If you happen to have a real horse available that would REALLY bring it home (by it, we mean you, as a real horse could actually get you home).

Additional Robin Williams Costume Ideas

We only covered a few of the characters that Robin Williams portrayed in his career. There are many more, both serious and comical, that you could bring as companions to the costume ideas above. The Genie from Aladdin, Popeye, the professor from Flubber, Patch Adams, what a career! Character imagery is included below for reference, as well as links to a few key costume pieces that would help create each look.

Most Popular Halloween Costumes By State Header

The country is divided once again. This seems to happen every couple years during the fall, and nobody can seem to agree on any of the big issues. We’re talking about big issues like what to wear for Halloween, of course! So, we asked ourselves, “If there was an election for most popular costume by state, who would win?” We threw that very question over to our tech-wizard, Jedi Master geniuses, and they got us everything we needed to identify what costume is actually the MOST popular in every state in the union. Some will shock you, some will surprise you, and some may raise an eyebrow or two, but we should all be able to agree that the state of our Halloweenocracy is strong. So, look below, check out the most popular costume in your state, and make our Founding Phantoms proud!

7 Horror Movie Inspired Skater Dresses

Horror Movie Skater Dresses

We'd say that horror and beauty go together pretty easily after seeing these skater dresses that our graphic design department created. Inspired by classic horror films from vintage Hollywood, we made seven mock-ups of dresses that we’d LOVE to see become reality! Wouldn’t you like to wear an outfit featuring the very first zombie shown in Night of the Living Dead? Or maybe you’d like to hit the town with a skirt that looks like Frankenstein’s monster’s stitched-together skin! Imagine the accessories! A coffin purse to go with Dracula or a fur stole to go with the Wolf Man. So cute. Take a look at all of our creations and see if you spot your favorite scary movie in the collection. We’ve put them in order of each film’s release!

1. Nosferatu (1922)

Nosferatu Skater Dress

"Blood! Your precious blood!"

Nosferatu was one of the earliest vampire films created and is regarded as a cinematic masterpiece. This dress is inspired by the famous shot of Count Orlok climbing the stairs, off to do a terrible deed. This black shadow on the golden background is so classic that we knew we had to include it in our dress homage.

2. The Phantom of the Opera (1925)

The Phantom of the Opera Skater Dress

"A masterpiece of horror that shocked cinema for decades!"

While Andrew Lloyd Webber might have brought the story to the musical theater world in the 80s, the original film terrorized movie-goers all the way back in the 20s. However, we do admit that our dress is a liiittle more Broadway and a little less Lon Chaney. Chaney didn’t wear the famous white mask in the movie, but our dress sure does. We recommend accessorizing with chandelier earrings.

3. Dracula (1931)

Dracula Skater Dress

"The story of the strangest passion ever known!"

Vampires tend to have incredible fashion sense and their folklore features some pretty cool motifs, so this design was a blast to create. Inspired in part by Gothic Lolita fashion from Japan, this dress features a scalloped hem, a vampire bat pattern, and, of course, the tell-tale bite marks. We’re hoping that Bela Lugosi himself would like this look, even if the model is wearing a cross necklace…

4. Frankenstein (1931)

Frankenstein Skater Dress

"A monster science created – but could not destroy!"

Frankenstein’s monster was created in a lab by a mad scientist who wanted to reanimate the dead. Our designers didn’t have that exact goal in mind, but the creative process might have been a little similar. Our favorite part of this outfit is the skin skirt (ew!). The patches of skin all stitched together totally look like recycled body parts. Gives a new meaning to “going green,” right? We'll be here all night, ladies and gentlemen!

5. The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

Bride of Frankenstein Skater Dress

"More fearful than the monster himself!"

The first lady of horror, Frankenstein’s bride is best known for her wonderful up-do. That beehive, accentuated with two white lightning bolts, is instantly recognizable, so we knew that had to be the centerpiece of this dress. The bandage tights are there in place of her white, gauze gown.

6. The Wolf Man (1941)

The Wolf Man Skater Dress

"Night monster... prowling... killing... terrifying a countryside... with the blood lust of a savage beast!"

This high-waisted skater skirt and crop top combo looks like a werewolf attacked it! Or … it looks like it was what the poor girl was wearing when she turned into the monster. The tattered jean skirt, the ripped up flannel crop – definitely post-transformation. Maybe wearing the phases of the moon on her tights wasn’t a great idea…

7. Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Night of the Living Dead Skater Dress

"They won't stay dead!"

In 1968, George Romero released his very first zombie movie, Night of the Living Dead. This dress, incidentally, features the gentleman who was the very first zombie who appeared IN that film. The shattered glass on the skirt helps us imagine what it was like to peek out at this undead creature after crashing into him in a cemetery. Eek!

Which of these dresses would you wear for a night out to the movies? Would you like to see any of these made in real life? Let us know in the comments! Be sure to share with us if you have any other horror films you want to see refashioned into a cute outfit.

DIY Woman on $10 Bill Halloween Costume

Ten-Dollar-Header.jpg

To coincide with the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment (which allowed women the right to vote), the United States Treasury has announced that in 2020 they will unveil a newly designed $10 bill with a woman front and center. While many had petitioned for the $20 note as the bill of choice to be redesigned, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew clarified that it was more an issue of currency security than the politics of Andrew Jackson and Alexander Hamilton. Opening up the discussion to the public, Lew has stated that the only qualification for the woman on the bill is someone “who was a champion for our inclusive democracy.”

With this easy and affordable $10 bill costume DIY, you can be that woman! Show your pride for democracy, capitalism, and dolla dolla bills with this fun DIY that puts your face on the tenner. Add your name to the prestigious list of candidates such as Susan B. Anthony, Betty Friedan, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and Eleanor Roosevelt. While the new bill won’t arrive until 2020, it’s never too early to start campaigning for yourself. Check out the materials and instructions below for how to create this $10 bill Halloween costume.

DIY WOMAN ON $10 BILL COSTUME

Ten-Dollar-A.jpg

What is great about this DIY costume is that it only takes a few subtle pops of green to pull it off.  You don't need to wear an obtrusive cloak or skirt. Simple dark pants and boots along with a green shirt pair well with the greys and greens of the faux-currency. The expression you choose to wear on your face is up to you, but our model went for the stoic look similar to what Alexander Hamilton displays on the current $10 bill.

  • Step 1

  • We didn't have a $10 bill costume on hand, so we made due with a $100 bill that was then digitally edited to appear as a tenner. For your DIY you can simply place some tape over the second zero. This is a DIY - it doesn’t need to look perfect! Besides, people will appreciate your ingenuity.

  • Step 2

  • Cut out ol’ Ben Frank’s face to make a hole big enough to insert your own beautiful visage. You can make the hole big enough to fit your entire head, or just your face. It’s up to you!

  • Step 3

  • To look as realistic as possible, we would suggest painting your face with green face makeup to achieve that faded, green currency color. Our model was not able to paint her full face, so we settled on green lips for a clean, bright pop of color.

While the $10 bill may not be as coveted as the $20 or the $100, it’s still nothing to sneeze at. Putting a woman on a United States bill is a big deal, so there are naturally a lot of very intense opinions surrounding the change. More than a costume, this woman on a $10 bill DIY costume might even spark constructive debate about the role and importance of women in politics! What do you think of the finished DIY project? What woman would you like to see on the $10 bill? No, you can’t nominate your mother.

DIY Rugrats Group Costumes

DIY Group Rugrats cotume

Nickelodeon introduced us to Rugrats in the early 1990s and the show has been reprised a few different times in crossover television movies and even a spin-off series called All Grown Up! The original series was without a doubt the most popular rendition of the show as it followed the lives of three year old Angelica along with the baby and toddler combination of Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil. After earning many awards, the show was cancelled in 2004 and reruns became increasingly sporadic as time passed.

A few weeks ago, the new Nickelodeon television block, Splat, included a Rugrats marathon featuring episodes with Reptar. Watching all those Rugrats episodes had us feeling a bit nostalgic, so we decided to create a group costume of the favorite characters just in time for Halloween. So, if you are planning to head out on Halloween night with a few of your friends, this DIY tutorial will give you a recognizable look that everyone will love. “It’s going to take years, maybe even months, of hard work.” Just kidding, the hardest part is going to be deciding who gets to be Angelica!

DIY Angelica Pickles Costume

Angelica.jpg

“Only some of us stay beautiful unless you go and get elastic perjury.”

Angelica is the oldest of the bunch, and Tommy's manipulative cousin. She is the dominant leader of the group who you will often see yelling "dumb babies" to the rest of the crew as she convinces them to do whatever she tells them. Her feisty attitude and I'm better than you outlook on life leaves her in a bit of an antiheroine role. However, she is still one fan favorite despite her sassy antics and spoiled brat behavior.

Then, you'll want to turn your Joker tank top inside out so it is solid purple, just like Angelica's iconic dress. Layer that over an orange shirt and pair it up with your finished leggings. Put on your orange socks, purple glitter heels, and you are almost ready! One of Angelica's most noteable features is her blonde pigtails and purple bows so if you don't already have blonde hair grab the wig, put it into pigtails, and attach our purple tuxedo bowties to each pigtail. Beautiful, just like Angelica!

DIY Tommy Pickles Costume

Tommy Pickles.jpg

“A baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do!”

Tommy is easily recognizable by his nearly bald head, short blue shirt, and diaper. If you are extremely committed to the costume, we do have an adult sized diaper and a bald cap to complete your look. However, if you wanted to opt for a less infantile version of the character like we did, shorts are a great alternative. A fan favorite and extremely admired by all his friends, Tommy is noted for his loyalty and bravery in the series even though he is the youngest of the bunch.

Not only is Tommy going to be one of the characters in the group costume that people fight over, but it is also the easiest costume to create. All you need to do is grab some white pants and cut them off into shorts, get the light blue t-shirt and you are almost set. Since Tommy doesn't wear shoes, we didn't include them, but if you are going out on the town for the night, wear something comfortable. In order to complete your costume, inflate your giant baby bottle, take the screwdriver from this construction worker kit, and do your best Tommy Pickles impression. "I'm heading home to have myself a juice, snuggle with my blankie, and go nap nap."

DIY Chuckie Finster Costume

Chuckie.jpg

“I am not a animal! I am a human bean!”

The cute buck teeth and scaredy-cat behavior of Chuckie Finster leaves many people with a soft spot for him. As Tommy's best friend, he gets caught up in the adventures that the other babies go on despite his hesitations. His famous tagline, "I don't know; maybe this isn't such a good idea," is heard all throughout the series as Chuckie battles the tough life of a two year old.

If you have an extra boy in your group, Chuckie is the obvious choice, but the great thing about many of these costumes is they can be easily adapted to male or female! For a female Chuckie, you will need to start by crafting a Saturn shape from the pieces of felt. You will need a round yellow piece and a Saturn ring in red. Proceed by either gluing or fastening it to the shirt with double stick tape. After you spray paint the glasses purple, you will have all your crafting done and can complete your look for Halloween night!

DIY Phil & Lil DeVille Costumes

Phil & Lil.jpg

“I haven’t eated since the last time I eated.”  “This is more fun than making bubbles in the bathtub!”

Twins Phil and Lil are part of the main crew of Rugrats. They love eating chocolate spaghetti (worms), bugs, and drinking toilet water. (Gross!) Phil and Lil dress alike with the exception of Lil's hair bow, their shoes, and Phil's shorts. Being Tommy's next door neighbors, they get to join him on many adventures. They tend to fight like cats and dogs and even use the other's full name when upset, but that's what brothers and sisters are for!

SInce Phil and Lil look so similar, the costumes are very easy to create! The only crafting you will need to do is cut a pair of blue pants into shorts for Phil and cut two ducks from felt to glue onto their turquoise shirts. If you turn our Beemo tank top inside out, you can glue the duck to your left waist line like the picture above. Each will wear a light pink shirt with the Beemo tank over the top. Lil will wear a white petticoat to resemble the diaper and Phil will complete his look with the blue shorts. If you are brave enough to carry around a few pieces of chocolate spaghetti for the night, it will be a costume that is hard to forget!

If you are feeling nostaligic and you've got some friends together for Halloween, a Rugrats group costume is sure to be a hit at the costume party! Which character do you want to be most? Ten years ago, selfie wasn’t a word in our current vernacular. With time and technology updates, selfies have become prominent on social media and the internet in general. 1. Big Eyes Snapchat Lens Makeup Tutorial

Bug Eyes Final.jpg

In all truth, it has probably been a secret wish of yours to transform into a Tazmanian Devil-like character or another Looney Tune from the bunch. Luckily, with one of Snapchat's new lenses your wish can come true. Sure, it tends to distort your face just a tiny bit, but is completely worth it. With eyes that bug out of their sockets on Halloween night, you'll be sure to turn a few heads...or at least creep a few people out when you take a nap!

The Steps

Bug Eyes Step 1.jpg

1. Use a small brush to draw a white circle outline upward from the edge of each eye and extend through part of the eyebrow.

Bug Eyes Step 2.jpg

2. Use that same brush to fill in the white outline so they are solid white circles.

Bug Eyes Final.jpg

3. Use another small brush to draw little black dots for the pupils and voila - you have big eyes!

2. Puking Rainbow Snapchat Lens Makeup Tutorial

Puking Rainbow Final.jpg

With this filter, all you have to do is open your mouth and a rainbow flows out like one of those Fruit by the Foot snacks. (Remember those?!) The puking rainbow look gives you big eyes and blushed cheeks, as a rainbow stream exits your mouth. This filter was quickly a fan favorite and many were disgruntled to find it was not a permanent feature. If you are desperately missing the rainbow puke filter, then this Halloween makeup DIY might be the one you can't live without.

The Steps

Puking Rainbow Step 1.jpg

1. Apply blush to the cheek bones - enough so that it stands out.

2. Using a thin makeup brush, apply a thin line of white face paint below each eye to make the eyes appear larger.

Puking Rainbow Step 2.jpg

3.Use a thin brush to draw faint lines so you have room for all the colors. Mark five equally spaced lines (enough for six colors).

4. Using a small, flat brush draw a red line from the left side of the bottom lip either straight down or with curves to the chest.

  • Note that it is the left side if you are doing someone else's makeup, but it is the right side if you are doing your own.

5. Either wash the same brush in between each color or use a similar brush, but the goal is to keep each color similar in size.

6. Follow the curves of the red paint while applying the orange makeup.

7. Repeat step 6 with the remaining colors - yellow, green, blue, and purple.

Puking Rainbow Final.jpg

8. Using another small brush, apply colored glitter to each of the stripes to make it stand out.

9. Using a skinny, round brush, apply white accents to the rainbow to make it look like it sparkles.

  • Drawing x's or astericks will work for this.
  • Apply two layers if the first doesn't stand out enough.

3. Horror Mask Snapchat Lens Makeup Tutorial

Horror Mask Final.jpg

It just wouldn't be Halloween without a little horror in our lives. Once Snapchat users started discovering this horror feature, they used it to their advantage - especially parents. Some cruel (or hilarious?) parents out there decided to turn on the feature and hand their phone over to their unsuspecting children. As soon as they opened their mouth, their face was transformed into a scary monster with sharp fangs. And the result? Screams, children yelling "scawwy," and parents laughing and posting the masterpieces on the internet. For those who found humor in this, or even those who just like that particular lens, this makeup look is simple and incredible!

The Steps

Horror Mask Step 1.jpg

1. Mix black and white body paint to achieve a desired gray color.

2. Use a large brush to apply the paint to the face, chest, and arms if desired.

3. Use a thin brush to apply a black outline in the shape of an open mouth.

4. Fill in the black outline and lips with a medium brush.

Horror Mask Step 2.jpg

5. Use the small makeup brush to apply black lines around the eyes.

  • They should appear to look like cracking stone or wrinkles like the picture.

6. Use another small, round brush to apply thin white teeth to the outside of the mouth out line.

  • These should circle around the lips and appear like fangs.

Horror Mask Final.jpg

6. Use black powder or a thin layer of face paint to darken around the eyes, apply and smudge with your finger.

7. Find a crazy looking black wig for an additional horror factor this Halloween.
