Batman Costume Evolution Header

For more than 75 years, Batman has been one of the most iconic characters, not only in comic books, but in all of pop culture. The caped crusader of Gotham City is a favorite to many generations of fans and, with the re-launch of DC Comics’ cinematic universe, will remain in the spotlight for years to come. One of the most identifiable features of the Batman is the bat symbol that’s prominently displayed on his uniform. While we’ve gone over the evolution of the bat symbol over the years, the Dark Knight’s costume has undergone several other changes, as well. Here’s a brief evolution of Batman’s costume over the decades.

Batman Costumes: The Early Years

Early Batman Costumes

[Source: Left | Top Right | Bottom Right]

Batman made his debut in Detective Comics as one of a bunch of short stories in a collection. The first Batman costume featured a gray suit with blue or black boots, cape and cowl, and a bat logo on the chest. Throughout the early years, the bat design changed, but the colors were about the same. Then, in the mid-60s, the bat logo was updated with a yellow background in both the comics and the Batman TV show that debuted in 1966 and starred Adam West as Batman. His costume matched that of the new comics look with less blue.

Batman Costumes: The 80s

In 1986, DC Comics relaunched its entire comic book collection, leading to what most think are some of the best Batman storylines of all time. One of the most popular comics series ever continues to be the 4-issue series The Dark Knight Returns, in which Bruce Wayne, at a later stage in life, comes out of retirement to become Batman once again. The comics typically featured darker tones and the Batsuit featured more gray and darker blues. Another big development for Batman in the late 80s was a return to the big screen with Michael Keaton starring in Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989. Keaton’s Batsuit was nearly all black with the bat logo that featured the yellow oval background.

The early 90s saw one of the greatest superhero shows ever with Batman: The Animated Series, featuring several classic Batman characters, and most notably, introducing Harley Quinn. While Batman boomed on television, Batman in film took a turn for the worse. Tim Burton’s follow up to the first film, Batman Returns, did well, but unfortunately, Burton only returned on a producer level for 1995’s Batman Forever and the studio took a more silly and campy approach over the earlier movies’ darker tones. The Batman costume shown in the 1997 follow-up, Batman and Robin, is seen as one of the bigger jokes about these films because, well, it had nipples.

In 2011, DC comics decided to discontinue and reboot all of their comic storylines, resulting in 52 new comic book series. These comics, known as “The New 52”, began a new series of Batman comics that is still in circulation today. There have also been four games in the Batman Arkham series featuring a Batsuit very similar to the one seen in the current comics. Another thing that happened was, following the release of Man of Steel, Warner Brothers Studios announced that it was expanding its cinematic universe with 10 films and Batman was to be included in the next film, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Ben Affleck was cast as Batman and pictures have shown him in a costume similar to that of the Dark Knight Returns comics, insinuating that he’s going to be an older Batman called back into action. He'll also be equipped with an armored suit to even out his battle with Superman.

Which Batman has been your favorite? Are you excited to see Ben Affleck bring back the role on the big screen in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice? Whether you're into movies, TV, comics, or video games, there's no denying the caped crusader as an iconic presence in pop culture. Prom Suits and Tuxedos Guide

Usually, the half of the date who wears a tuxedo to a formal event knows that they might not look as exciting as the person wearing a glitzy, glam party dress. However, folks, it's 2016, and that kind of sad fact is just no longer true! For those of you who want to inject a little personality into your black-tie attire, rest assured that you have quite a few options to choose from. From bright orange to camoulage to the American flag, you're sure to find something that suits you!

You could color coordinate with your date, arrive on the scene, and reenact your favorite parts of Dumb and Dumber. Know what would be even cooler? If you wore an Opposuit to prom or homecoming or, dare we suggest, YOUR WEDDING, everyone would want to get a picture with you. However, please let your date know far in advance. Can you imagine trying to match a prom dress to a bright blue plaid pattern?

You still will look absolutely smashing in a purple tuxedo and you'll save your date a few headaches. OR you can do a little mix-and-match, and pair the vest or shirt or, really, ANYTHING from these sets with a black suit. A little peek of color might just do the trick!

You can go all out and wear head-to-toe camouflage, or you could be a little more subdued, and stick with a little accent here and there, like a pocket square or bow tie. Just be prepared for the jokes your significant other will hear, like, "Oh, where's your date? I don't see him anywhere!" Everyone's a comedian...

Superman Costumes in TV and Movies

Superman Movies and TV Header

Superman made his comics debut in 1938 and has since been one of the most widely-recognizable superheroes on the planet. The Man of Steel was then featured in other media beginning in 1941 with a series of animated shorts. The iconic costume, featuring blue spandex with red trim, has been one of the most cosistent looking superhero costumes ever, although the shield emblem has seen it's share of changes. There have been many Supermans (or Supermen?) over the years. In fact, there are nearly as many failed Superman films and TV shows as there are ones that made it to audiences’ eyes. Let’s take a look at the different Superman portrayals in movies and TV over time. While the Superman costume may have stayed the same, the different people who wore it made the hero their own.

George Reeves as Superman

[Source]

While there were many short features featuring Superman, he didn’t make hit the big screen until 1951 with Superman and the Mole Men, starring George Reeves as Superman. The movie launched the Adventures of Superman TV series with Reeves reprising his role in the show, as well as Phyllis Coates returning to play Lois Lane. The show ran from 1952-1958 and ended abruptly due to Reeves' sudden death in June of 1959. A couple of spinoffs were in the works, but neither made it to air on television.

Christopher Reeve as Superman

[Source]

Superman: The Movie came out in 1978 and is still seen today as one of the best superhero movies ever made. Christopher Reeve was cast to wear the classic Superman costume for this franchise, which released a total of four movies between 1978 and 1987. Superman and Superman II were filmed back-to-back and, with stars like Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman in supporting roles, were viewed as critical and commercial successes. The third and fourth films did not do as well, which resulted in abandonment of a potential fifth movie and ending Reeve's run as the hero.

DEAN CAIN AS SUPERMAN

[Source]

The 90s brought Superman back to television in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The show followed more of the personal life of Clark Kent and his relationship with Lois Lane as he goes through life concealing his identity as Superman. Dean Cain played Superman along with Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane. The show lasted for four season before being abruptly cancelled due to a steep ratings decline.

Brandon Routh as Superman

[Source]

After years of unsuccessful projects, the Man of Steel returned to the big screen in 2006 with Superman Returns. The film served as somewhat of a sequel to the first two Christopher Reeve movies and ignores the events of III and IV. The film starred Brandon Routh as the title character and Kevin Spacey as villain Lex Luthor and did well. Despite positive reviews and success at the box office, Warner Brothers studios decided to cancel the planned sequel and opt for another reboot.

Henry Cavill as Superman

[Source]

2013 brought us a new Superman with Henry Cavill, who wore an updated costume for the summer blockbuster Man of Steel. The movie released in the summer of that year and, though it was financially successful, received mixed reviews. Regardless, director Zack Snyder announced that the sequel would be a team-up movie with Batman, with Cavill returning in his role and Ben Affleck suiting up as the caped crusader. In addition, Warner Bros. was planning an extended cinematic universe with nine additional films featuring characters like Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and more. If these films live up to their potential, we could see Cavill in the Superman costume for quite a while.

How do you feel about Superman squaring off against Batman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice? Who is your favorite Superman? Is there someone who you feel would make a good Superman? In our research, we found out that Nicolas Cage was supposed to play the hero at one point. That movie ended up being cancelled, but that didn't stop him from putting on the costume. You, too, can even wear a Superman costume under your clothes in case you need to save the day!

Star Wars The Force Awakens Costumes

A (not so) long time ago in a galaxy (not so) far, far away…
Star Wars fans have long been analyzing, obsessing, admiring, and even recreating the many classic costumes seen in both the original Star Wars trilogy as well as the prequel trilogy, and we’re happy to tell you the trend has continued with the release of The Force Awakens. It’s not just an act of ritual for long time fans; the new costumes in The Force Awakens (or TFA as it is often referred to on message boards and Star Wars fan circles) are made with such care, attention to detail, and unexpected awesomeness that reverence for these new costumes are just as justified as our collective admiration for the simple yet wicked elegance of the Vader suit or the enigmatic heritage of Boba Fett’s Mandalorian garb. This list goes through our standout favorites from the TFA newcomers—the cream of the galactic crop—and we might even have a few little tidbits sprinkled in about how the costumes inform the characters, their war-torn world, and how the dynamic between the mysterious First Order and the struggling Resistance continues to inspire our love for that galaxy far, far away.

The First Order Stormtrooper Costumes

The Force Awakens Stormtrooper Costumes

Classic Child TFA Stormtrooper Costume - Shop     Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper Helmet - Shop

There’s a classic scene in Star Wars: A New Hope where Han solo runs down a corridor on the first Death Star, ready to face the whole Empire himself, war cry and all, until he turns the corner and sees what looks like every Stormtrooper on the station crammed into one room all poised to kill him. Han, of course, runs in the opposite direction and avoids becoming blaster fodder. In the original trilogy, the Imperial Stormtrooper was a threat in numbers and less so individually. Even in numbers, they were beaten by an inexperienced moisture farmer, teddy bear creatures with pointy sticks, and let’s not forget about the one that bumps his head on that door.
The Force Awakens seems to have changed the Stormtrooper formula. Their armor, while recognizable, is sleeker and more refined, not unlike the way we look at first generation iPhones in comparison to their latest version, and every detail is upgraded for effectiveness from the lenses to the rebreathers to the flexible mesh under-suit. This new kind of Stormtrooper is versatile and dangerous in training, attitude, and technology making them a formidable opponent for the Resistance in any capacity.

Kylo Ren Costumes

Voice Changing Kylo Ren Helmet - Shop     Kylo Ren Lightsaber - Shop

After more viewings of TFA than we’d rather admit, we still don’t know that much about Kylo Ren. We know who his parents are, we know who he admires more than anyone else in the galaxy, and we know that he serves a giant blue hologram, but beyond that? Anything is possible. Even before we saw the film we knew we were on board with his malevolent goals whatever they may yet turn out to be, because his costume and helmet took such radical inspiration from Vader that his appeal could not be denied. The Ren helmet is an obvious take on the Vader helmet; a rear lip jutting out harkens back to WW2 German helmets in our own world, which is no mistake. The front, however, is a major departure from Vader. Star Wars fans might see some similarities in the face of Jedi Master Plo Koon, or from the expanded “Legends” universe character Darth Revan, but the end result is original. Ren’s look is dark, bleak, tattered, certainly a reflection of his own inner character—such descriptions could describe both his costume and his outlook. He is just a boy after all, being torn in two by the dark side and the light, and his costume manifests that for viewers. He may be evil, but his evil is not solid and confident in the way Vader’s was (and his iconic suit show), but more damaged and confused. There may be hope in Kylo Ren yet, but if he is ever to turn to the light side he will need a change in clothes—something lighter, airier, and hopefully less ragged.

You caught us. It’s true that Chewbacca doesn’t change a whole lot in TFA from any of the other films, but being such dedicated Star Wars fans we knew we couldn’t make a list like this one and exclude our beloved walking carpet co-pilot. Perhaps the bigger curiosity here is that Chewbacca hasn’t seemingly aged at all; he even still wears that exact same bandolier we saw him wearing all the way back in Episode IV. A quick little search told us that Wookiees can live up to four hundred years, and with that much time on his hands you’d think Chewie would explore some new fashion accessories, but apparently he likes to keep it simple. He found what works for him and he’s sticking with it. You can actually spot lighter strands in his fur and he might be a little thicker than in previous films, but overall he’s still the same old Chewie and just for that, he deserves a spot in our hearts and a spot on this list.

Captain Phasma Costumes

Captain Phasma is the opposite of every other First Order Stormtrooper and Officer. Where the typical Stormtrooper is meant to be anonymous, without identity, and only be one of many, Phasma stands out as an individual, a leader, and a formidable soldier on the field. Her uniform gleams with a substance called chromium, a radiation-resistant metal taken from Emperor Palpatine’s own Nubian yacht as seen in the prequels, and her First Order cloak adds the suave sophistication of an officer. Phasma’s uniform is a combination of opposites and unexpected details. A woman in a male-dominated role without some kind of gendered armor (a choice by the filmmaker’s that we applaud wholeheartedly), a helmet similar to a Stormtrooper’s but with a sharp bottom edge and stylistic grooves, and a bare metal finish armor set that feels subdued and menacing all at once. We can only hope her role continues to grow in this new trilogy, because we want to see a whole lot more of her character in action.

Rey Costumes

The Force Awakens Rey Costumes
Deluxe Kids Rey Costume - Shop     Classic Kids Rey Costume - Shop

Adult Episode VII Rey Costume - Shop     Rey Eye Mask with Hood - Shop

The protagonist of TFA is Rey, a young girl with unknown parentage living on the sandy and desolate desert planet of Jakku. Her introductory scenes show us her desperate, cyclical lifestyle; a simple scavenger gutting any valuable remnants she can find out of an old fallen AT-AT and a downed Star Destroyer left over from an ancient Rebel and Imperial battle. This kind of harsh climate calls for a certain type of clothing that allows for ease of movement and limited exposure. Because of the hot sun, Rey uses simple airy wrappings to block her skin from the elements, and her goggles are made of Stormtrooper helmet lenses, showcasing her abilities as a capable scavenger and craftswoman. Those simple wrappings (the same kind that Luke wore before her) are proof of a humble beginning on the Outer Rim of the galaxy where promise of adventure, heroism, and realization of destiny are as rare as the food packets she trades to survive. We have no idea what is going to happen to Rey on this journey, but we hope we see her in classic Jedi robes in the next film, on her way to becoming one of the greatest Masters of all time.

Finn Costumes

The Force Awakens Finn CostumesClassic Finn Kids Costume - Shop     Deluxe Finn Costume - Shop

Adult Star Wars Finn Costume - Shop     The Force Awakens Blaster - Shop

Finn makes the largest costume leap in TFA. When we first meet him, he is a First Order Stormtrooper, one of the many, engaging in a small village slaughter. Soon he is emblazoned with a bloody handprint across his immaculate white helmet, and with that, he is forever changed inside and out. His inner struggle comes to an end—he is not meant to be an anonymous killer, and so he escapes with Poe Dameron and through some odd space antics of which Star Wars characters are prone, Finn adopts Poe’s civilian jacket. Finn uses this to blend in on the planet because the jacket is totally unremarkable: a simple beige, leather-like material with red accents, the kind of thing you’d see a hundred times over at any spaceport across the galaxy. The costume reflects Finn’s character and story—his identity is not fully formed yet. He is a defected Stormtrooper and a Resistance imposter for most of the film, so of course he borrows aspects of his costume from both of those worlds. By the end of the film he comes into his own, and we’re sure in the next film he will finally get an iconic costume to reflect his storied crossover to the Resistance cause.

While we wait for Episode VIII…

We will have to continue analyzing, obsessing, and admiring the costumes from Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens until 2017 when Episode VIII (to be titled) comes out and adds fresh new costumes to the fan fold. If you want to become your favorite characters from any of the Star Wars films including The Force Awakens, you will find all your favorite Star Wars costumes right here on HalloweenCostumes.com. Do you have a favorite new costume, or do you have any other fun facts and tidbits about the costumes mentioned in this list? Please let us know in the comments below. And may the force be with you.

Halfway to Halloween blog post

Why does Halloween only come once a year? It seems like a real bummer that the main holiday dedicated to dressing up like crazy characters only comes just once every 365 days. Sure, it turns October into the best month of the year, but what about those other months that want to be a part of the fun? What about April? It's spring time, the flowers are in bloom, new Game of Thrones episodes are on, and superheroes are fighting each other. If that's not deserving of a little bit of costumed fun, then what is? Well, April's in luck, which means you're in luck. Coincidentally, this spring time month is Halfway to Halloween! That makes it the perfect opportunity to treat yourself by dressing up in a Batman costume, or getting the party started in a Puppy Monkey Baby costume. There's a lot that's been going on this year, so let's take a look at all the things happening to find some inspiration for the many costume looks you can go with on this glorious holiday.

Batman v Superman Costumes

Whoa! Can superheroes go more than a couple of hours without pummeling each other? Apparently not, since Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman proves that Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent just can't seem to see eye to eye on things. Whatever your take is on the dream sequences and the constant slow-motion shots, it's impossible to deny how awesome the costumes are in the blockbuster movie. Did you see Ben Affleck in that Batman costume? Best. One. Yet. Henry Cavill's looking quite heroic in his new take on the classic Superman costume. And Gal Gadot's outfit? Forget about it! If you've been itching to jump into a superhero suit of your own, then Halfway to Halloween gives you a reason to do it, so go ahead and superhero it up.

Superheroes aren't the only ones monopolizing the silver screen. Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, and the gang are kicking butt and taking names in the film, Suicide Squad, but of course, the girl that everyone is talking about is none other than Harley Quinn. Her relationship with The Joker has been a focal point on a lot of the hype around this film, so it's no wonder that dressing up like either of the characters has never been a better idea. Since she's a little bit cute and a lot a bit crazy, her look makes getting a little crazy an easy proposition. Here are some of the costumes you can wear for the halfway celebration, including a sultry look inspired by the Joker.

Who hasn't wished that they could be Deadpool for a day? The Marvel comic book character has wisecracks for days, a cool pair of swords, and probably the best superhero costume ever made. Of course, the guy's a little bit too crazy to try to live inside of his head for more than a day, which is why these Deadpool costumes are a great way to be the Merc with a Mouth without completely losing your head. That way, you get to have all the fun of fourth-wall breaking comic character without having to suffer through all that Weapon X experimentation. And, of course, since he's got himself a brand new movie this year, it also makes for a great look for a costume party.

DIY Puppy Monkey Baby Costume

If Mountain Dew has taught the world anything, it's that merging 3 things together produces some...interesting results. In the case of MTN Dew Kickstart, it's a delicious blend of juice, caffeine, and Dew. In the case of Puppy Monkey Baby, it's a paradoxical abomination that's one part cute, one part creepy, and one part what-the-heck-did-I-just-witness. He made his grand entrance into pop culture with that wacky Super Bowl ad, offering refreshment to those in need of a jolt of energy and the rest is internet sensationalism at its best. Yes, once that little critter is in your head, it's hard to get him out of there. Why fight it though? Embrace the weird little guy. You can even find instructions on how to make your own Puppy Monkey Baby costume right here on our blog!

Yes, it's that time of the year again. All flavors of theories have popped up on the internet about the fate of Jon Snow. Will the Clegane brothers be pitted against each other at some point? And who the heck comes from Targaryen descent? These questions may or may not get answered in the latest season of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones. Of course, the question of “What am I going to wear for Halfway to Halloween?” will be answered with some of these medieval inspired costumes. Of course, wearing one of these outfits for a Game of Thrones party on Sunday is practically mandatory once you have one! Just make sure to bring your sword along with you, since you never know who you can trust when entering the realm of Westeros.

Guess what? If you thought that this little holiday was only for adults, then think again! If you have a little rascal or two at home, then celebrating Halfway to Halloween turns you into their hero. Imagine being a kid and your parents tell you that you get to wear a costume and have candy...and it's not even October yet. It's pretty much the best thing that can happen to a kid. But what are the kids loving these days? One word: Zootopia. The Disney movie smashed the box office sales with it's amazing animated visuals and wacky characters, so your kids are definitely going to want to be the funniest animals from the movie, like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.

Are you excited at all the possibilities for Halfway to Halloween yet? 2016 is primed to be a great year to toss on a costume, throw a party, and shake off the winter - and we have plenty of other new costumes for 2016 to get you in the party spirit! Captain America Costumes: Evolution of a Super Soldier

Captain America has worn an incredible number of costumes since the character debuted 75 years ago. These costumes typically alternated between patriotic suits and more modern military uniforms, with some notable exceptions. Of course, his appearance was ultimately in the hands of the artists and writers who worked on the Captain America and The Avengers comic book titles, often for extended periods of time. These included Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema, and Mark Gruenwald, among others. In this infographic, we show how Captain America’s costume has evolved in comics, television, and film. We primarily consider the main universe or continuity, though we do briefly look at The Ultimates alternate universe because of its influences on later appearances.

X-Men Throwback: The Superheroes Then & Now

So we're just a few weeks away from X-Men: Apocalypse hitting the theaters. The second sequel to the X-Men First Class series, which was introduced in 2011, will mark the ninth overall installment in the X-Men films. It's safe to say that we are eagerly anticpating finding out just what will happen to the X-Men when the movie finally drops. Will Apocalypse and his four horseman destroy the fledgling X-Men and rule the world? Or will Professor Charles Xavier and Raven be able to lead their ragtag band of mutants to once again save the world from doom??

We can't wait to find out, but in the interim, we've just having a ton of fun geeking out on everything X related. We were blown away when Empire magazine featured 9 collectible Apocalypse covers in their May 2016 issue, so we decided to assemble the cover collage that highlights the new costume looks and then recreate the design using artwork from our own stacks of vintage comics. With art that shows what the iconic characters looked like in titles such as The Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants, and X-Factor, you can use these interactive slider images to make an in-depth comparision of what each character looks like in 2016 compared to how they appeared in vintage comic books of the 80s.

"Chewbacca Mom" Candace Payne

Last week, while Candace Payne was doing some shopping, she came across the talking Chewbacca mask and decided to treat herself. Once she got to her car, the excitement got to her and she had to check it out. Luckily for the general public, she decided to broadcast her unboxing and reaction on Facebook Live video and it was great! She had a blast playing with the mask and her contagious laughter made for an enjoyable experience for anyone watching. After millions of views (the video has quickly become the most watched video on Facebook Live since it launched in January) and tons of shares on social media, Payne has become a darling of the internet. She’s made appearances on Good Morning America and the Late Late Show with James Corden. Kohl’s, the retailer where she purchased the mask, came to her house to surprise her with Star Wars merchandise and other gifts as a thank you for the free advertising. In her case, a small, fun moment went a long way!

8 Tim Burton Adult Coloring Book Pages

Tim Burton has a directing style that is instantly recognizable. Dark colors, quirky details, and gothic imagery are all motifs found in Burton's movies, and they're all a big part of why so many people are big fans. That's why we thought creating some free adult coloring book pages based on scenes from his films would be such a perfect idea! Yes, most of the scenes are creepy and dreary, but there are definitely plenty of colorful moments in the movies, like the bright green of the trees in Nightmare Before Christmas, the teal and turquoise hues of Cheshire Cat in his version of Alice in Wonderland, and the glowing red flames of the pet store in Pee-wee's Big Adventure. But, even so, better sharpen up those gray crayons, because with characters like Jack Skellington, Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and the entire cast of Ed Wood, you'll need 'em!

Video Game Movies: Super Box Office Bros

Video games have been telling stories since the days of Pong. Sure, a friendly game of table tennis on a Sunday afternoon may not be the next Citizen Kane, but the game still strives to show us an epic competition between two paddles! Other games take us on epic odysseys to a faraway land filled with princesses, dinosaurs, and tiny mushroom people, a la Super Mario Bros., and others, like the stories in Resident Evil, show us our own world, but with more zombies. With the treasure trove of tales to tell, it's not surprising that many games have taken the step into the silver screen. Some entered the movie scene like champs, while others crashed and burned in a glorious blaze of blue Hadouken flames. Since Blizzard has decided to take a stab at it with Warcraft, coming out on June 10th, we got inspired to put together this list of all the internationally released movies based on video games, which shows you which video game movies brought in the most coins and which ones tanked at the box office.

Halloween Costumes for Redheads

Redheads are widely known to be feisty, sassy, unpredictable, and a lot of fun, so it's not surprising that your group of pals are begging you to go out in costume this Halloween. Why not dress up in a way that will compliment one of your best features: your flaming locks! It's a great way to show off one of your favorite traits while looking like the pop culture character you love. We've rounded up some of the most recognizable characters who proudly sport a crimson mane, so pick out your favorite and don the costume. You'll love the freedom of not wearing a pesky wig while receiving compliments on your adorable hairdo. Don't be surprised if you hear, “Oh wow, your wig looks perfect.” You'll love smiling and saying, “It's not a wig... I'm a natural redhead!”

Good Guys with Red Hair

What do the Mad Hatter, Black Widow, Lucille Ball, and Pippi Longstocking all have in common? Yes, they're all spirited redheads, but they also share another very important characteristic... they're good guys! They're door-holding, truth-telling, honest to goodness good guys who want to do the right thing, so why wouldn't you want to dress up as one of them? The Mad Hatter, although a little bit insane and strikingly odd, is a friendly character who just wants to aid Alice on her journey through Wonderland. You'll love sporting the bandolier, bow tie, and especially the top hat, since it'll bring attention to your natural fiery hair. This is a great costume idea for both men and women. Redheaded ladies who love kicking butt and wearing zip-up jumpsuits will flock toward embodying the Avengers assassin, Black Widow. You'll love looking like Natasha Romanov's stunt double while playing up your red hair. If you'd rather dress as a timeless and comical redhead, we recommend a Lucille Ball or Pippi Longstocking costume. They're both charming characters that do not require you to wear a wig. Curl your hair if you want to wear the lovable Lucy costume, but if you rather transform into the peppy Pippi, braid and part your hair for a look that's straight out of a storybook!

Villains with Red Hair

Okay, so we already know that there are a lot of heroic redheaded heroes out there, but what about the villains? Are there fiery-haired bad guys out there too? You betchya! If you've always been slightly smitten with the nefarious type, you'll love playing up your red hair as a vile villain. Superhero-obsessed ladies will love hunting down the Dark Knight while being wrapped in vines and wearing an all green ensemble, so a Poison Ivy costume is perfect for redheads who want a viciously sexy look. If you rather swing a flamingo mallet while bellowing,“Off with their heads!” we recommend wearing a regal, yet evil, Queen of Hearts costume. The crown will look flawless on top of your beautiful crimson strands. If you're in the market to dress as a red-haired character that will send shivers down the spine of everyone (especially men), we urge you to check out our Medusa costume. Interweave some toy snakes into your fiery mane to embody the gorgeous Gorgon. Last but not least, there's the murderous and diabolical Chucky doll. This look is feasible for both men and woman, just tease your mane and be sure to practice your best sinister laugh!

Disney Characters with Red Hair

disney character costumes

Mermaid Costume - Shop           Sally Costume - Shop             Jessie Costume - Shop           Hollywood Singer Costume - Shop

Think back to your childhood. Who was your favorite Disney character? We bet it was a character who had red hair just like you! Have a magical time this Halloween dressed as your favorite fiery fictional Disney darling. Of course, one of our top picks for you is Ariel from The Little Mermaid. She's spunky, sassy, and she also has a healthy crop of thick foxy locks. Clip a starfish barrette into your mane as a cute piece of flair that will draw even more attention to your noteworthy hair. If you rather channel a slightly spooky character, we recommend dressing as Sally, the rag doll creation from The Nightmare Before Christmas. You may not be able to detach your limbs like the incredibly clever character, but you will be able to achieve her red hairdo. Just straighten your hair and get out there to find your your very own Pumpkin King. Having a rootin' tootin' good time will be a piece of cake as long as you dress up as Jessie, the rowdy wrangler from the Toy Story movies. All you'll need to do is put on your cowboy boots, hat, braid your hair, and practice saying, “Howdy partner!” Last but not least, get in touch with your inner lounge singer diva by wearing the purple gloves, sky-high heels, and sparkly red dress. It will transform you into the most tantalizing bunny in Toon Town, Jessica Rabbit. Just put some rollers in your long red locks and you'll be ready to serenade the crowd while simultaneously stealing hearts!

Kid's Costumes for Redheads

kids costumes

Child Pebbles Costume - Shop      Child Daphne Costume - Shop      Girls Blossom Costume - Shop      Girls Fiona Costume - Shop

When you're a kid, it's tough blending in when you have red hair. Don't spend time trying to blend in; just stand out! Kids will feel special and proud if they have a costume that compliments their hair. Girls will look adorable as Bedrock's cutest cavegirl when they wear a Pebbles costume. Just attach a bone clip to their locks and they'll be ready to ride a T-Rex. If solving spooky mysteries is your child's passion, a Daphne costume would be delightful on her. After teasing her hair, she'll be ready to hop in the Mystery Machine van with Scooby and the rest of the crime-solving squad. Carrot tops who love crime-solving will also enjoy wearing a Blossom costume from the Powerpuff Girls. They'll love looking like the City of Townsville's favorite fiery-haired hero. Finally, she could always dress as the coolest ogre in all of the enchanted kingdom by wearing a Fiona costume. She can be as feisty as she wants when her red hair is fixed into a side ponytail. This is a great costume idea for little redheads who want a princess inspired look!

So what costume will you pick out to compliment your flaming locks? Here's a link to some of the costumes for redheads that we talked about above. Pick out your favorite and let us know what you picked out in the comment section below. And don't forget to include a picture because we want to see the final look, too!

Pokemon GO Costume Ideas for Halloween

Pokémon GO hit the US Android and Apple app stores last week and, well, if you’ve seen an influx of people walking the sidewalks with their phones in front of them, that’s why. This new AR game turns regular smart phone users into real life Pokémon trainers – you can walk down the street by your house and catch a cute Pidgey hanging out by the mailbox or you can go to the local park in your neighborhood and defend your territory at the gym, battling your Pokémon against others in the area. There are some crazy stats about the app, too – as of the 8th, people were playing Pokémon GO more than they were using Instagram or Snapchat! (Also, the app added over $7 billion to Nintendo’s market value in just two days. Yikes!) While you’re catching ‘em all, you have to look the part. We know that the video game series will be as popular as ever this Halloween, so here are some Pokémon costumes to get you ready for October.

While Pokémon GO gives you two options for your trainer (boy or girl), nothing beats catching ‘mon dressed as the classic Ash Ketchum. That red hat is a must-have while walking the streets, tossing a Pokéball at that 45th Rattata. You KNOW if you’re Ash, though, Pikachu has to be your number one when you attempt to take over a local gym. Another option for a trainer costume? Team Rocket, of course! They may be villains, but they are trainers, through and through. Plus, you can’t say no to Meowth, can you? On the double!

Pokémon GO features only the original 151 Pokémon, but that’s okay with us. Laying on your couch with a Gameboy trying to fill out your Pokédex with all 700+ entries is one thing, but going out in the world to catch these bad boys? Let’s start with just 151 and see how that goes. For Halloween, you could go dressed as Pikachu to complement an Ash costume. You could also convince a bunch of your friends to dress up as Squirtle, find some black sunglasses, and be the Squirtle Squad.

Like we mentioned above, it’s pretty easy these days to spot a Pokémon GO player. Are they in a group? Looking at cell phone held straight out in front of them? At a little landmark-type spot on the sidewalk? Maaaaybe in a church parking lot? If so, they’re definitely picking up some eggs and potions at a Pokéstop. You know, they won’t all be wearing Charizard costumes and Team Rocket jumpsuits. For the more casual Pokémon GO player, a pair of sunglasses or a nice Pikachu hat will say “I love this game!” without saying “I REALLY LOVE THIS GAME!!”

Are you playing Pokémon GO or are you holding out a little bit longer for the servers to get a bit more stable? Are there any that you wanna catch outside of the original bunch? Seeing a Mudkip out about town would be pretty incredible. Between this app and Pokémon Sun and Moon coming out on November 18th, this is definitely a good year for the franchise! Who Ya Gonna Call?: The Evolution of the Ghostbusters Costumes [Infographic]

Summer of 2016 is bringing us a reboot of the popular Ghostbusters franchise, marking a 27-year gap between films. Since Ghostbusters became a cultural phenomenon in the 80s, talks of a third movie had been in the works shortly after the release of Ghostbusters II in the 90s. Dan Aykroyd, the driving force behind the franchise, initially pitched a third installment, but the studio had turned it down due to it's outrageous $150 million budget. For perspective, the 2016 release Ghostbusters has reported to have a budget of $154 million, so the budget for Aykroyd's movie adjusted for inflation would be around $275 million today! Throughout most of the past decade, Ghostbusters III had been in various forms of development with scripts being drafted and Aykroyd continually providing updates on the progress. However, the movie was ultimately scrapped in favor of the upcoming reboot.

2016's Ghostbusters will bring a fresh look to the popular franchise that started more than 30 years ago. The film will feature a new team of female Ghostbusters including Saturday Night Live alums Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Kristin Wiig, along with comedy superstar Melissa McCarthy (who has hosted SNL four times!). It may be difficult to not compare these characters to their original counterparts, but these will be all new personalities to go along with the up-to-date style of the movie. Even though the characters will be different, one thing will remain the same: an iconic uniform with a really sweet proton pack! How do the new Ghostbusters uniforms compare with those of the original lineup from the movies and TV show? Check them out here and learn some fun facts about the characters in our evolution of the Ghostbusters costumes infograhic.

What's your favorite Ghostbusters uniform? You can't go wrong with the originals, but we really like the multi-colored ones from The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. Are you going to see the new Ghostbusters reboot? There are some who are disappointed in having a reboot instead of a sequel with the original characters. While there are some sequels that came out 10+ years after the previous movie that have done really well (Toy Story 3, Mad Max: Fury Road), there's a great deal of them that just don't hold up after such a long gap in time (we're looking at you, Dumb and Dumber To). Besides, Bill Murray's unwillingness to be involved in Ghostbusters III and the death of actor Harold Ramis were only a couple of many things that prevented the movie from being made. If you are going to see the new movie, be sure to pick up some Ghostbuster costumes just in case there's something strange in your neighborhood.

The Alien Evolution Infographic

Watching the movies in the Alien franchise, it’s easy to forget that the titular monster is actually a man in a suit. The slick, onyx-colored skin of the Xenomorph, the spindly, whip-like limbs, the dome-shaped head—these features seem so inhuman that it’s hard to imagine the creature being anything but another species from an unknown planet. However, this creature was man-made, dreamt up in industrial nightmare by artist H.R. Giger. Over the course of the main four films in the series, Giger and fellow designers tweaked and modified the Xenomorph, evolving the creature little-by-little. This infographic shows you the changes made in each film, from its original appearance in 1979 through Alien: Resurrection in 1997.

Harry Potter Wands

J.K. Rowling wasn’t the first author to write about witches and wizards and their magic wands. But her attention to detail in describing each wand individually helped to make the “wizarding world” come alive for readers like us. (And, we’re assuming, you!) In the Harry Potter fictional universe, every wand is somewhat sentient and therefore unique. This is because wandmakers craft the wands using different woods, with different lengths, and with different materials in their core. To celebrate Harry’s upcoming birthday (his 36th!) and the release of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script book, we bring you this infographic on the most important wands in the Harry Potter franchise!

The Man of Steel and the Dark Knight already duked it out earlier this year in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman. In August, Suicide Squad aims to up the ante by forcinga whole bunch of supervillains to work together on a team and sending them on black ops missions for the government. (What could possibly go awry with that plan?) All that superhero movie action got the old brain-juices flowing about films based on the DC comic book universe. It seems like there have been a million Batman movies since Adam West first donned the costume and Superman sure hasn't been shy about showing up on the silver screen. Do you remember that time that Shaq was a superhero? How manymovies has DC done anyways? Well, ponder no further! This handy infographic lists every theatrically release full-length film that DC has ever made.

Special note: We didn't include any imprints like WildStorm, Vertigo, or Paradox Press, so we don't want to see anyone getting too crazy about that in the comments! We'd rather see a discussion about why Shark repellent Bat-spray seems to make sharks explode rather than just repel them. Feel free to post about that, or tell us how awesome Heath Ledger was as the Joker in The Dark Knight, or just let us what you think of the latest DC movie, Suicide Squad, and the new Suicide Squad costumes.

Star Wars Locations Header

How do you create a place that doesn’t exist? That was the challenge by George Lucas, JJ Abrams, and company in filming the Star Wars saga. Several filming locations were filmed and set pieces were built to create the atmosphere of planets in a far away galaxy. The deserts of Tatooine can be found in both Tunisia and the US, the ice planet of Hoth was actually a glacier in Norway, and even the resistance air base on D’Qar is a real air force base found in the UK. Star Wars filming locations can found all over the map, and most can even be visited.

While plenty of filming took place in the studio, the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, and Episode VII all benefited from location shots. The original trilogy didn’t have the technological advancements or budget available like the newer films, so the choice was more out of necessity. However, by Return of the Jedi, it became more difficult to film without fans flocking to see the action. The prequels (for better or worse) used green screen technology, but the filmmakers were able to shoot real scenery to use in the backdrops. They still shot some scenes on location, but by shooting in studio, they were able to avoid the crowds of onlookers, not disturb some of the historic locations used, and take advantage of the current technology at the time. For The Force Awakens, most location filming either took place in secret or under maximum security to avoid crazed fans. Seriously, there were people flying drones over the set trying to get pictures! It’ll be interesting to see how they handle filming for future Star Wars films. For now, take a planet-by-planet look through all the filming locations used for Star Wars Episodes I-VII in our latest infographic.
