Famous Pirate Women in History [Interactive Map]

Throughout history, many famous pirates have sailed throughout the world. A lot of notable pirates such as Sir Francis Drake and Blackbeard, among others, were male, but there were plenty of women pirates who were just as ruthless. Even like their male counterparts, there are some pirate women who have only existed throughout the hundreds of stories in pirate lore. The reason why there are so many interesting stories about pirates is because there's very little historic documentation of them, especially with female pirates. In most of history, women were not supposed to be pirates. One of many superstitions of the seas was that it was bad luck to have a woman aboard your ship. To keep their identity concealed, some would dress and live as men during their time on the water.

Despite the perceived negativity around women on the ships, it didn't stop them from taking command and committing acts of piracy at times. We've tracked down more than 30 pirate women, both real or potentially fictional, and included them in the following resources. These pirates come from various points in history dating all the way back more than a couple hundred years BC all the way to late 20th century. Below, we've featured ten of the most prominent women in piracy with information such as territories, years active, and more. Some of them, such as Anne Bonny, have shown up in video games, TV shows, and other forms of pop culture. Check out this interactive map for your complete guide to these fierce females.

That's a lot of interesting facts on those ten pirates to go through! Hopefully, you didn't miss anything. If you think you did, or want to check out all the information in one place, we put everything together in this handy infographic as well!

Who is your favorite woman pirate? We really like Sadie the Goat. The idea of wearing your severed ear as part of a necklace has a special level of toughness to it. We hope this map and infographics have armed you with useful knowledge or helped increase your interest in pirates. We'd recommend some of the resources listed below if you'd like to study up on pirate history. If you'd like more pirate entertainment, why not check out a show like Black Sails or maybe watch some pirate movies. There's even a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie here in time for summer movie season. If not anything else, be sure to dress up in Pirate costumes for International Talk Like a Pirate Day this year! Yarr!

May 2017 People’s Choice Cosplay Contest Winner

Thank you for making our May 2017 People’s Choice Cosplay Contest such a success! We were figuratively deluged in comments and emails for a couple of weeks there. They were pouring in, well, like votes do. (We’re sorry, but votes don’t make great similes.) Anyways, we fed the votes into our Counterator 2000 Machine and–PRESTO!–out popped a name.

Remember that the winner gets $1,000 in products from HalloweenCostumes.com or Fun.com, like a shipping spree! Not sure why we're bothering to write words here because you're just going to scroll past them to see who won, so let's move on to that part right now. The winner is....

Ebony Amber

Ebony Amber as Jareth from Labyrinth

Ebony Amber as Jareth from Labyrinth.

The fans thought her makeup was spot-on and really loved the details on her coat, especially the hand-sewn beads. They also said that she captured the spirit of the character! (We completely agree, which is why we awarded her second place in our April Cosplay Contest!) It's an all-around fun costume and the time she put into designing and sewing it really shows.

Let’s take a look at more cosplays and costumes from the fan favorite, Ebony Amber!

Mina

Ebony Amber as Mina from Bram Stoker's Dracula

As with the Jareth costume, you can appreciate how much time she put into making this dress. While not part of the costume, the chair and curtains help capture that late-nineteenth-century ambience! (Photography by Mandi Martini.)

Here are two more views of the dress. (Image courtesy of Ebony Amber.)

Feylin

Feylin, Queen of the Trolls.

We love the Jareth and Mina cosplays, so we figured we'd highlight one of Ebony Amber's completely original designs. The details on the Feylin costume are fantastic, as usual. This character could totally be at home in an epic fantasy or historical movie. (Photograph by Mandi Martini.)

Vahana

Ebony Amber as Vahana

Vahana.

We’re a big fan of masks, so naturally this costume caught our eye! It's an unusual design, to be sure, but it looks right at home with the feathered dress and wings. (Prosthetic mask by Tyler Green, photograph by Mandi Martini.)

We'd like to thank everyone who participated in the cosplay contest. If you're interested in following Ebony Amber on social media, you can find her on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!

Our April and May Cosplay Contests were a lot of fun! What other contests would you like to see in the future? Let us know in the comments, and consider subscribing to our news feed so you don’t miss your chance to win! You can also check out our own costumes from movies and television.

Are you a guy with long hair? Do you need a costume for Halloween, a party, a comic book convention, or any other special event? Well, we have some suggestions for you! It’s important to take advantage of those long, luscious locks of hair when coming up with costume ideas. After all, there are people who pay a premium for wigs to go with their costumes, and wigs are certainly not as comfortable as the hair on their head! Check out our ultimate guide that's full of costume ideas for guys with long hair. You’ve already got the hair, so your costume is halfway complete!

Superhero Costumes

Both Thor and Aquaman are appearing in their own movies in the coming year, as well as superhero team-up movies with the Avengers and Justice League, respectively. We don't think you'll be able to find anyone in Marvel or DC movies with better hair. The only other character who compares is the clown prince of crime, the Joker: in an incredible performance by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, he rocks mid-length green hair that matches his vest.

Game of Thrones Costumes

Game of Thrones Costumes - Shop

When you play the Game of Thrones, you either win or you die. However, if you dress up as Game of Thrones characters, you'll always live to fight another day. Even so, you'd have to survive a lot of battles for your hair to get as long as Khal Drogo's. A more realistic hair length lies with favorites such as Ned Stark or Jon Snow.

Other duos like Jay and Silent Bob or James MacElroy and Chazz Michael Michaels make for some entertaining long-haired duos. Regardless of how long your hair is, you'll be able to easily portray some iconic characters from cinematic history.

Long hair is synonymous with some of the biggest rock legends of all time. Whether your costume is equipped with psychedelic colors, leather jackets, face paint, or anything else, the hair is what lets people know "I'm here to get loud". Throw on your costume, grab a mic, and get ready to make a scene on Halloween. If you can pull it off, a signature Michael Jackson moonwalk always goes over well.

There are a lot of identifying factors when it comes to pirates. Skull and crossbones, parrots, swords, peg legs, and triangular hats with feathers in them. But one other thing you’ll notice about most pirates is they have long hair. Of course they do! There’s no barbers of the seven seas. You may end up with an accidental haircut during a sword fight though.

Wizard Costumes

Gandolf, Dumbledore, Merlin, Jareth; aside from being wizards, they all have something in common in their lengthy hair. However, when you look at younger wizards such as Harry Potter and his Hogwarts acquaintences, nobody seems to be growing their hair out. There must be a point in a wizard's life when they become too busy for hair maintenance.

Crazy Hair Costumes

Even if your hair is only a few inches long, that's long enough to stand it up for a crazy style. Typically, the hair is the identifying factor saying "this guy is a little bit off the rails". Just make sure that if you dress as Beetlejuice, Doc Brown, or any of these other eccentric people, you bring enough energy and weirdness to the character you're portraying.

Wrestling Costumes

WWE Costumes - Shop

Some of the most legendary professional wrestlers kept their hair long. Maybe they felt that it was an important part of their distinguished look? But it sure didn't help when someone would pull them by their hair, or grab it in order to smash their face into the turnbuckle or the ring.

Other Long Hair Costume Ideas

Hippie Costumes - Shop    Disco Costumes - Shop    Native American Costumes - Shop

Caveman Costumes - Shop    Renaissance Costumes - Shop

Want some more options? Take a trip through history and you'll find a wide selection of costumes with long hairstyles. Obviously, there were no barbers in the days of cavemen, which somehow didn't keep Fred Flintstone from maintaining a clean look. But eras like the 60s and 70s were years of rebellion, which included refusing to cut your hair to conform. It's all good because you've got the hair that completes the look of the costume.

The Evolution of Catwoman [Infographic]

Evolution of Catwoman Header Image

Catwoman made her comic book debut 77 years ago in Batman #1 and has since been one of the Caped Crusader's greatest villains while also being a love interest of Bruce Wayne. Despite the fact that they're both on opposite sides of the law, there has always been an attraction between Batman and Catwoman. He even proposed to her recently! Throughout her early years, she was known as "The Cat" or "Cat-Woman" before being consistently referred to as Catwoman.

The feline villain also went through many costumes with varying styles and colors. It wasn't until the Post-Crisis era of the late 80s when she first donned the jumpsuit that is so common with her look over the past 30 years. One of the more memorable appearances of Catwoman came 25 years ago in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. Michelle Pfieffer's performance in the role was downright scary. From the haunting transformation into a supervillain to the sewn-together black latex suit (complete with claws), this Catwoman was a far cry from her first appearance in 1940. Take a look at all of the main appearances of Catwoman over the years in our infographic below!

Babadook Meme Costume for Pride

If someone told you a few weeks ago that the Babadook would become the most popular symbol of 2017's Pride Month, you wouldn't have believed them. But, if the past year and a half has taught you a single lesson, literally ANYTHING can happen. Thank goodness for us, this time that "anything" was something incredible. The Babadook is a horror movie released in 2014 about a single mother and her kid being tormented by a storybook character. Pride is a celebration of LGBT rights, love, and acceptance. So, why is the Babadook a gay icon? Well, many reports say that Netflix accidentally added the film to their LGBT section, and as the internet is known to do, the joke took off. Whether that origin story is true or not, we don’t really care, because we love the Babadook’s new inclusion at Pride events around the country. Since we are HalloweenCostumes.com, and this is too amazing to not take part in, we created our own DIY Babadook costume perfect for you to wear to Pride or for Halloween this year.

The Inspiration

LGBT Babadook

Tumblr artist @muffinpines did the world the most incredible solid when she drew this portrait of Babashook going to his first Pride. After looking at many, many, many images of costumes and fan art online, we knew that Kylie's drawing was the one we wanted to model our DIY costume after. Plus, Babashook is the best pun, so we couldn't pass that up.

The Finished Babalewk

How To Dress Like Babadook for Pride

Perfect, right?! To quote one of our favorite signs we've seen, "Shantay, you Babastay." Makeup aside, this DIY costume was very easy to put together. While in the movie, the Babadook was ghastly, ghaunt, sinister, and even a liiiittle murderous, pride-Babadook is the opposite: bright, excited, and full of smiles.

Alright, here's what we did! Take that shirt and use a black marker to write "Get Ready To Be Babashook" on the top and then crop it! Just cut the bottom half off to show off those Baba-abs. For this DIY, we included the full body black suit to give you a creepy, unearthly skin-tone to match the black and white illustrated style of the movie monster. Great news: the solid black skin really makes the rainbow suspenders look even brighter.

Babadook Memes

Market research for this DIY included multiple Google image searches to find the best Babadook outfits from Pride parades and events over the past few weeks. We know, we know. It really is hard work, but someone has to do it. Here are a few of our favs.

Sentient Vehicles Header

The concept of a vehicle that can act on its own has been around for decades. Movies and TV shows have often featured these characters with varying degrees of sentience, from cars that can talk and sing and interact with humans to other vehicles who are portrayed merely as self-driving, with no other personality traits. With both Cars 3 and Transformers: The Last Knight in theaters this month, there was no better time than now to create this infographic which features 25 of our very favorite sentient vehicles, dating all the way back to 1941. We’ve included Lightning McQueen and Optimus Prime, of course, but we're also sure to mention some lesser-known vehicles, such as a vampire motorcycle and a murderous semi-truck.

Didn't realize there were so many, huh? Us, either, until we really started digging into the concept! It was pretty hard to narrow down. We didn't even include any video game vehicles (next infographic, perhaps?). Did we miss any that you love? Let us know in the comments! Or, you know, tell us about your favorite sentient car theory. While you're brainstorming your own favorite cars that can think and laugh and love, you can also take a look at our Transformers costumes. Now that you’ve done your photo booth, it’s time to entertain some more. Sure, you could go without decorating your party location, but why would you? Especially when you could add some color with these affordable ideas! One of our favorite decorations is the rainbow fringe garland seen on the top right. Not only is it cute, but it will make your room pop! The top left is pretty simple: grab some colored construction paper and create a vibrant rainbow heart garland. The bottom left shows an adorable table set-up featuring flowers, placemats, and personalized name tags. If those flowers are too much for you, take it down a notch with the simple yet elegant white flowers in colorful water.

We all know a party is not complete without great food and tasty drinks. Make your guests' mouths water with the healthy (but still tasty) rainbow vegetarian pizza seen on the top left. Bottoms up! Take rainbow shots with your friends and celebrate each others' individualities. For those who don’t drink, no problem! Pick up different colored sodas and line them up accordingly. Not only does this serve as a great thirst-quencher, but also an eye-popping decoration! Top it all off with a slice of rainbow cake. Scarf that sugary goodness down with no regrets because you deserve it.

Now that you've got everything you need to throw an amazing party, go celebrate! Let us know which ideas are your favorite and if you have any others, feel free to leave them in the comments below. A Justice League of Their Own

The 25th anniversary of A League of their Own is coming up and we wanted to do something to celebrate. It’s a funny and positive story, after all, plus we’re suckers for a good sports movie. So we got this idea to combine A League of Their Own with the DC Comics team Justice League, because we’re also a fan of mashups and puns. (But don’t you dare call them mashupuns, because that’s going too far.) Anyway, if you combine those two you get A Justice League of Their Own, which is pretty obvious if you’ve already read the title of this series of original poster art. This time, though, it won’t be the Justice League versus the Legion of Doom like in that episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Instead, they’ll be facing off against the Parademons and their ringer, Steppenwolf. Of course, the Justice League of Their Own has to win, because there’s no crying in baseball. Hey, enough of the jokes, let’s get in to the posters!

Dottie “Wonder Woman” Hinson

Dottie “Wonder Woman” Hinson

In A League of Their Own, Geena Davis plays Dorothy “Dottie” Hinson, the assistant manager and catcher of the Rockford Peaches. She’s an inspiring character and the glue that holds the team together, which makes her the perfect alter-ego for Wonder Woman. While Dottie is a fictional character, the Rockford Peaches and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) were real.

Kit “Aquawoman” Keller

Kit “Aquawoman” Keller

Dottie’s younger sister, Kit Keller, is played by Lori Petty in the film. She pitches for the Peaches and later the Racine Belles, and has a somewhat antagonistic relationship with her sister. In the Justice League of Their Own, Kit becomes Aquawoman, a superhero whose aquatic upbringing tends to set her apart from the rest of the team.

Mae “Flash” Mordabito

Mae “Flash” Mordabito

Madonna plays "All the Way" Mae Mordabito, a center fielder and a wild go-getter. Mae’s real-world inspiration, Faye Dancer, would often perform backflips and cartwheels on the field. This impulsiveness, exuberance, and speed mean that Mae was made to be The Flash!

Doris “Batwoman” Murphy

Doris “Batwoman” Murphy

Rosie O'Donnell’s Doris Murphy is a former bouncer and a little rough around the edges. While her jokes and sarcasm are often directed at the rest of the Peaches, Doris always stands up for her team when she’s needed. We felt that being fearless and quick-witted would make Doris a great Batwoman.

Mamie “Cyborg” Johnson

Mamie “Cyborg” Johnson

Mamie "Peanut" Johnson played for the Indianapolis Clowns as a starting pitcher, where she pitched against men. She attempted to try out for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League but was denied because of her race. We included Peanut here because she is said to have inspired the “stray ball” scene in the film.

Here’s a group shot of A Justice League of Their Own: Dottie Hinson as Wonder Woman, Mamie Johnson as Cyborg, Doris Murphy as Batwoman, Kit Keller as Aquawoman, and Mae Mordabito as Flash (from left to right). We modeled the poster after the official Justice League poster:

The Evolution of Spider-Man

2017 Update: just in time for Spider-Man: Homecoming, we've updated our infographic to include post-2014 costumes. Don't call it a sequel, more like a soft reboot! The original blog introduction is below:

"Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can." Boy...that song is almost as iconic as Spider-Man himself! Even though the classic red suit with black webbing detail is the most recognizable of Spidey's looks, the costume has seen some interesting alterations throughout the years. Join us as we untagle the web of Spider-Man's changing fashions. From the suit's evolution in print, to the suit's changes on film, we cover all the Spidey fashion bases!

The Top 10 Comic Con Costume Ideas

Attention comic book fans, cosplayers, and all around nerds, convention season is here! While San Diego Comic Con is the greatest destination of the year for those who eat, sleep and breathe pop culture, there are so many other conventions taking place over the course of the summer (and the rest of the year) that anyone would be able to attend. Comic conventions provide a great opportunity for cosplaying as your favorite characters from pop culture. We've put together a list of the 10 best costume ideas to provide you with all the inspiration you need when dressing up for Comic Con.

1. Marvel Superheroes Costumes

Iron Man Costume - Shop     Spider-Gwen Costume - Shop     Captain America Costume - Shop     Deadpool Costume - Shop

Black Widow Costume - Shop     Spider-Man Costume - Shop     Star Lord Costume - Shop     Groot Costume - Shop

Marvel Costumes - Shop

The buzz around Marvel movies every year goes unmatched. While many get excited about the latest entry in the MCU, it’s just as easy to be blown away by some of the crazy cool Marvel costumes that people show up in. Whether it be a real life Iron Man costume, an ultra-realistic Spider-Man suit, or some really cool Hulk makeup, you’ll be able to find someone in the Marvel universe

2. DC Comics Costumes

Superman Costume - Shop     Joker Costume - Shop     Harley Quinn Costume - Shop     Batman Costume - Shop

Supergirl Costume - Shop     The Flash Costume - Shop     Arrow Costume - Shop     Wonder Woman Costume - Shop

DC Costumes - Shop

Batman is not only the king of comic book superheroes, he’s also one of the most popular cosplays. Despite the fact that you’re wearing an all-black, heavy suit with limited mobility, so many people dress up as the caped crusader for conventions. Aside from Batman and Robin, another popular duo for DC fans is the clown prince of crime, The Joker, and his hard-hitting love interest, Harley Quinn.

3. Star Wars Costumes

Rey Costume - Shop     Kylo Ren Costume - Shop     Ahsoka Costume - Shop     Darth Vader Costume - Shop

Obi Wan Kenobi Costume - Shop     Stormtrooper Costume - Shop     Boba Fett Costume - Shop     Princess Leia Costume - Shop

Star Wars Costumes - Shop

Most (probably all) comic conventions take place here on Earth, not a galaxy far away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring the galaxy to the convention. You can go as a Jedi, a Sith, or you can go full droid, if you like. There are plenty of intergalactic options, but we'd advise against Jabba the Hutt. You could get awfully tired lugging that costume around.

4. Game of Thrones Costumes

Dark Northern King Costume - Shop     Dragon Queen Costume - Shop     Northern King Costume - Shop

Red High Priestess Costume - Shop     Men's Renaissance Coat - Shop

Game of Thrones Costumes - Shop

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular shows ever with one of the most expansive casts ever. Attendees will dress as their favorite Game of Thrones character regardless of if they've been killed off on the show or not. Sometimes, they'll base their costume around that character's death or maybe even an iconic moment, like Cersei's walk of shame or Hodor holding doors. These costumes are always appreciated by fellow fans.

5. Walking Dead Costumes

State Trooper Costume - Shop     Zombie Costume - Shop     DIY Negan Costume Tutorial - Click Here

Daryl Dixon Poncho - Shop     Daryl Dixon Vest - Shop     Michonne Sword - Shop     Negan's Lucille Bat - Shop

Walking Dead Costumes - Shop

Next to Game of Thrones, no other show has been on as long or been as consistent as The Walking Dead to inspire hundreds of con-goers to dress in zombie garb for the event. After seven season, the show hasn't slowed down in adding new characters (while killing off others) to inspire all sorts of fun cosplay. As main characters come and go, you'll always be sure to come across some walkers at any convention you attend.

6. Video Game Costumes

Master Chief Costume - Shop     Arkham Asylum Harley Quinn - Shop     Ryu Costume - Shop

Pokemon Ash Costume - Shop     Breath of the Wild Link Costume - Shop     Freddy Fazbear Costume - Shop

Video Game Costumes - Shop

The biggest gaming convention of the year, E3, provides a great opportunity for cosplay. However, video game cosplay is well-represented at comic conventions all over the place. One of the most popular game characters to cosplay as recently has been Overwatch, with awesome characters like D.Va (pronounce Deeva), Mei, and Tracer, among others. Other gaming cosplay that is prominent at conventions include World of Warcraft, Halo, and popular Nintendo characters like Link and Mario.

7. Harry Potter Costumes

Harry Potter Costume - Shop     Luna Lovegood Costume - Shop     Hufflepuff Robe - Shop

Newt Scamander Coat - Shop     Slytherin Robe - Shop

Harry Potter Costumes - Shop

Straight outta Hogwartz. There's no shortage of wizards at any convention. While some are game to round up a group for a spirted game of Quidditch, others are intent on using magic to help them skip lines in order to attend the panels they want or get their hands on some sought-after merch or autograph.

8. Star Trek Costumes

Classic Uhara Costume - Shop     Klingon Costume - Shop     Spock Wig - Shop     Classic Star Trek Phaser - Shop

Star Trek: The Next Generation Command Uniform - Shop     Classic Spock Shirt - Shop     Star Trek: TNG Operations Uniform - Shop

Star Trek: TNG Phaser - Shop     Star Trek Costumes - Shop

Star Trek is one of the biggest fandoms around, making it a safe bet to cosplay at a convention. Many people enjoy the classic looks of Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Captain Kirk (William Shatner), or Klingons. And with other popular versions such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and the recent movie trilogy, the force is strong with the Trekkers (please don't tell them we said that).

9. Cartoon and Anime Costumes

Homer Simpson Costume - Shop     Leonardo Costume - Shop     Bubbles Costume - Shop

Bojack Horseman DIY Costume - Click Here     Attack on Titan Mikasa Costume - Shop     Dragonball Z Goku Costume - Shop

Bob Belcher Costume - Shop     Rick & Morty DIY Costume Tutorial - Click Here

Movie and TV Costumes - Shop     Anime Costumes - Shop

Among the guests featured at comic con panels and booths are voice actors of current and classic animated favorites. Usually, these guests are thrilled to see people dressed as characters they provide voices for. Other recent favorite animated characters to cosplay as include those from shows aimed at adults like Bob's Burgers, Bojack Horseman, and, of course, Rick & Morty. If you're looking for something else, there are plenty of anime characters from the likes of Dragon Ball Z, Attack on Titan, or Sailor Moon (to name a few) to choose from!

10. Pop Culture and Meme Costumes

David S. Pumpkins DIY Costume Tutorial - Click Here     Babadook Pride DIY Costume Tutorial - Click Here

Stranger Things DIY Costume Tutorial - Click Here

Just like with Halloween, every year offers a new set of memes that resonate with nerd culture so much that it inspires some creative individuals to throw together a costume to wear to a con. Last year’s popular costumes included Pokemon Go and Stranger Things, among others. What will this year bring? Fidget spinners? The Babadook? David S. Pumpkins?!?!

Will you be attending any conventions this year? Are you planning on dressing up? You're always welcome to share your cosplay pictures with us on our Facebook page and, if you're looking for more inspiration, you can check out our full selection of Halloween costumes that would make for a perfect convention costume!

Game of Karts

Winter is coming, and so are spoilers, so consider yourself warned if you’re not caught up with Game of Thrones. When we last saw our players, Cersei had knocked several opponents out of contention, Daenerys was racing across the Narrow Sea, and Jon Snow narrowly avoided a veritable army of dangers. But who will take the Iron Cup? You’ll have to play Game of Karts to see!

And by “play Game of Karts,” we mean “imagine a game that’s like Mario Kart meets Game of Thrones!” We took our favorite “players” and made up karts, stats, and a favorite item. Unlike the books and television series, though, we’d like to think that Game of Karts isn’t as…permanent. Let’s wave the green flag and start, because All Players Must Race!

Best Cat Halloween Costumes

Don’t be alarmed, but cats are taking over the world. Yes, those little darlings are stealing our hearts and they’ve even conquered the internet with memes, gifs, and downright adorable videos. Even the ancient Egyptians worshiped those furry little critters, so it’s not surprising that we still can’t resist them in the modern age. Of course, their appeal has gone nuclear since intrepid cat owners began posting pictures of their pets wearing costumes. Cats and costumes together? That combines two of our favorite things—be still our beating hearts!

We’ve found some of the best cats in Halloween costumes, so you can get some ideas for your kitty this season. Just check out the best cat Halloween costumes on the internet.

Taco Cat

Just in case you’re late to the party, the phrase “Taco Cat” is spelled the same ways forwards as it is backwards. Take a moment to think about it… crazy, right? Well, this particular Taco Cat photo is glorious!

Shark Cat

[Source]

Many of you may know him as Max the Roomba Cat, but you have to admit he’s got a killer sense of style when it comes to costume choices. Unfortunately, the lovable feline passed away, but he will always be revered as the fiercest predator to ride a Roomba while wearing a shark costume.

DJ Cat

[Source]

Need some sick beats? Then it’s time to get DJ Cat up in the house! Everyone knows that cats have some mad scratching skills and this little cutie is definitely no exception. Just make sure not to lend him your original Beatles Abbey Road vinyl!

Hello Kitty Cat

[Source]

Here’s a little kitty cosplaying as her favorite celebrity cat! Hello Kitty has been around for almost 5 decades and she’s been an awesome character for other cats to cosplay as. This cat certainly looks pretty fantastic for being almost 50.

Yoda Cat

[Source]

Cats are often wise beyond their years. They don’t let little troubles plague their mind. They just find the nearest sunbeam and cuddle up for a nap, or they roll around on the carpet for a while, or they peer endlessly outside the window and ponder the meaning of life. That’s why Yoda makes perfect sense for a cat! He's also one wise little pointy-eared pal.

Superman Cat

[Source]

Cats are superheroes. They’ll chase down a pesky fly that’s been buzzing around the living room and they’ll always try to cheer you up when you’ve had a bad day (provided that you’ve filled the food dish). Yes, it’s only fitting that this little kitty is wearing a tried-and-true superhero costume.

Bumble Bee Cat

[Source]

Some cats are busier than humans! After all, they need to run around the house at night for literally no reason at all and they also need to maintain a vigilant watch over all the windows in the house. They also need to groom constantly and alert you when their food bowl is empty. Yes, cats are quite busy little bees, but perhaps none are busier than this little bumble bee cat!

Toy Story's Woody Cat

[Source]

People like to say that dogs are man’s best friend, but anyone who owns a cat knows that their feline friends deserve to share that title. Just look at this cat all dressed up as Woody from Toy Story! How could he not be your best friend?

Captain America Cat

[Source]

Some cats want to act like tough guys! They’ll strut their stuff to ward off anything they see as a threat to the safety of their home! This little kitty has even taken it to the next level, since he’s wearing the uniform of Captain America. Do you think they put Super Soldier Serum in his food dish?

You might be wondering how you can get your own cat dressed up like the fancy felines you just witnessed now! Well, the answer is that it's quite easy, provided you have a kitty who is alright with wearing costumes. There are plenty of costumes for pets and even though many of these ones were designed for dogs, they should work quite well on most cats provided you get the smaller sizes.

Awesome Two-Person Costume Ideas

There’s no debate that one is the loneliest number when it comes to just about everything. There’s even a song dedicated to the solitary digit and the heartache it can cause! Being alone, especially during celebrations and holidays, is a total bummer. Does anybody really envy the poor soul who goes stag to the party and then nervously munches on hor d’oeuvres? Um...nope! Well, now there’s a way to ensure that you’ll never be that guy or that girl ever again. These two-person costumes make it virtually impossible for your friend to abandon you throughout the evening. Think about it, if you two are huddled together under a camel costume or bound together in a Christmas sweater, your pal will stay right where they belong: attached to your hip!

Two-Person Camel Costume

Two Person Camel Costume

Camel Costume - Shop

Whether it’s Halloween or just another hump day, grab your BFF and hunker down inside this two-person camel costume. You and your pal will achieve party animal status because who wouldn’t want to celebrate with one of these awesome desert dwellers? Although, you’ll need to make a very big decision before all the camel-chaos can ensue. Decide which one of you will wear the camel butt. In our opinion, whoever consents to wearing the camel-keister is very lucky because awkward encounters can’t spoil your night. Simply crouch down and follow in your friend’s footsteps, but make sure your partner in crime agrees to sneakily pass you drinks.  After all, camels need to stay hydrated, right?

Two-Person Horse Costume

Two Person Horse Costume

Horse Costume - Shop

You two will be ready to prance under the moonlight, dash across the green meadows, and gallop into the sunset once you’re both concealed in this two-person horse costume. It’s a costume that adds a little extra giddy-up to your step, although it requires minor training. You and your BFF will need to practice trotting in unison because clumsy steeds simply don’t exist, and because looking as majestic as possible is a must. Once you’ve mastered galloping in harmony, then the real horseplay can begin.

Two-Person Mammoth Costume

Two Person Mammoth Costume

Mammoth Costume - Shop

There’s no better way to become the life of the party than by showing up as an animal that’s been extinct for 4,000 years. Naturally, everyone will freak out because you and a pal will form a complete prehistoric beast in this two-person wooly mammoth costume. Girls will shriek in excitement and bros will fist bump you in approval because there’s no debating the awesomeness of this larger-than-life creature. Before you and your buddy are praised by partygoers everywhere, you’ll need to practice stomping in unison. We wouldn’t want you two to fall over on the dance floor and poke an eye out with your mighty tusks.

Cookies without milk? That’s just crazy! Milk without cookies? Well, that’s so… boring. Enjoying one without the other just isn’t right. Cookies are meant to be dipped in milk and if you happen to disagree then take it up with Santa! This cookies and milk costume doesn't link you and your friend together like the other costumes, but this get-up definitely requires two BFFs. Stay by your friend’s side throughout the night and people will start to crave freshly-baked cookies and a refreshing glass of milk. Kids who can’t seem to keep their hands out of the cookie jar can also become the mouth-watering combo by wearing the children’s version of this costume.

Family Christmas parties can be brutal. Uncle Merle is going to badger you with the annual cringe-worthy question: “what do you plan on doing with your life, kid?” Of course, Aunt Edna will inquire about your relationship status fifteen times before the party’s through, even though she’s well aware you’re single. Tackling the holidays alone can be daunting, but not if you bring your friend with for emotional support. This two-person holiday sweater wraps two friends together in cozy fabric which clearly indicates which one of you is on the nice list and which one of you isn’t. The best part? No need to worry about getting cornered into an awkward conversation because your pal will be right there to bail you out.

Nothing can break the ice at an ugly sweater party like a bit of bathroom humor! If attending your office Christmas party is causing you some minor anxiety, then this holiday sweater is the solution. Not only does this sweater feature a comical image of Santa and Mrs. Claus using different restroom facilities simultaneously, but there’s also a second neck opening so you can be shoulder-to-shoulder with your best friend or significant other. (Although it might get awkward whenever someone needs to visit the lavatory.) It’s a good thing you guys are close!

It’s peanut butter jelly time! Notice that it’s not just peanut butter time or just jelly time; both ingredients are required for the party to commence. These two condiments complement one another much like you and your bestie, so it’s the perfect disguise for BFFs who want to remain side by side throughout the night. Put on the foam tunics, creating a classic open-faced PB&J, and suddenly your colleagues will crave this school lunch delicacy. This two-person costume will become the perfect sustenance for all your future Halloween plans, plus it also comes in a kid’s size!

Will you and your friend decide to join forces and transform into a whole sandwich or would you rather coordinate your footsteps underneath a camel costume? Either way, we’d love to see photos of you two disguised in a two-person costume or snuggled up in a two-person sweater. HalloweenCostumes.com Exclusive Masks and Costumes

We love costumes here at HalloweenCostumes.com. That’s pretty obvious, right? It’s what we do. But that love for costumes extends to masks and makeup, really any form of dress-up and cosplay. It’s no surprise that many of us grew up watching costume-heavy mediums like horror and fantasy/sci-fi films. So you can say that it’s been a lot of fun to work with Immortal Masks on our exclusive Pennywise, Freddy Krueger, and Gene Simmons silicone masks.

Immortal Masks of Hollywood, California is a huge name in the effects industry. Their in-house artists and collaborators have worked on plenty of movies that you’d recognize, from indie horror classic Killer Klowns From Outer Space to blockbusters like Jurassic Park and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Their silicone masks are all hand-painted and feature an internal mesh which allows them to stretch to many times their original size yet still resist tearing. We can’t say that these masks are immortal, but they’re definitely durable and made to last. Let’s take a look!

Pennywise from Stephen King’s It

Pennywise is our newest silicone mask from Immortal Masks. That’s an obvious choice, considering Stephen King’s It was responsible for more than a few cases of coulrophobia around the office. (That’s a fear of clowns, by the way.) It’s said that a fine mask is like a bottle of wine: you have to pair it with an equally fine costume. Or something. Hey, we sell costumes, not analogies. Anyways, we carry an exclusive grand heritage Pennywise costume–“grand heritage” simply means it’s high quality. That costume already comes with a mask, but upgrading to the exclusive Pennywise mask is a nice option.

"I’m every nightmare you’ve ever had. I’m your worst dream come true. I’m everything you ever were afraid of."

Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger was our second collector’s mask from Immortal. We’ve seen a lot of Freddy costumes and cosplays over the years, and they all involve a great deal of makeup time, both applying the makeup on and taking it off! That’s the beauty of a silicone mask like this: you get a mask that was sculpted and painted by Hollywood effects artists, but you can slip it on in seconds. A quality sweater, like our children’s Nightmare sweater pictured above, completes the look.

"When I was alive, I might have been a little naughty, but after they killed me, I became something much, much worse. The stuff nightmares are made of." (Are you sensing a trend with these masks?)

Gene Simmons (The Demon) from KISS

The Gene Simmons “The Demon” mask was the result of our first collaboration with Immortal Masks. We have made exclusive, licensed KISS costumes for some time, so a limited edition mask was a real no-brainer. The mask is made to be worn, of course, but we have a feeling that most KISS collectors would be putting theirs on display. Because of that, we included a hand-numbered certificate of authenticity in every display box.

Here’s the mask being worn. The model said that the mask was so comfortable that he could wear it all day. We don’t recommend that, unless you like being mistaken for Gene Simmons.

We made this video to cover all The Demon mask's important features, from the mesh core to its stretchability.

YouTuber HorrorHound 85 made this honest and unsolicited unboxing/review of the mask.

What did you think? Have you worn a silicone mask before, or do you own any? You can brag about them in the comments below, we don’t mind at all. Even if silicone isn’t your thing, we carry all kinds of Halloween masks, including plastic and latex masks.

Stephen King's Adaptations [Infographic]

There's no question that Stephen King is the one of the most prominent, influential horror authors ever. Since selling his first short story in 1967, Stephen King has been a publishing machine over the past 50 years. He's penned more than 50 novels and more than 200 short stories, with plenty of other written work in between. Over the years, King has even built his own fictional universe in connecting the worlds described in his work, many of them to The Dark Tower series along with several other characters and locations that either appear or are referenced in other stories.

Not only has his work been the prime inspiration for several other authors, but for movie and television studios as well. To date, there have been more than 60 films and TV series adapted from novels, novellas, short stories, and even original screenplays. The next to be released is The Dark Tower, which is a continuation of the book series that combines elements adapted from the eight novels. The story from the movie will continue on in a Dark Tower TV series and as with the books, it is said to connect to other stories in King's universe. IT, the next Stephen King adaption to be released theatrically, is also said to have connections to the Dark Tower universe, which is evedent in the latest video tweeted out by Sony (btw, the latest IT trailer is terrifying!). You can see the full list of Stephen King's adapations and learn more about some of the connections in our infographic below!

That's a whole lot of things to watch! We're pretty sure even more went into production in the time it took us to put this together. Which Stehen King movie or book is your favorite? Is there one that stands out to you as most scary? For us, it's a tie between IT and Pet Semetary, but there are tons of other honorable mentions. Leave us a comment on here or our Facebook page and let us know what you're afraid of. If you aren't coulrophobic (afraid of clowns), maybe you'll want to pick up a Pennywise mask or a scary clown costume for scaring others. You know, for laughs.
